Hello from Germany to Australia!

Although I´m no Pearl expert, when looking at the pics in the ad I see some facts that confuse me.

1) The lugs I would date to late 60s/early 70s

2) The badges say late 70s

3) The tom holder system seems to be early to mid 80s

4) The wrap seems to be too good to be true (no fading, looks very clean -

maybe a re-wrap?)

5) The snare might not have come with the rest of the kit, to me it looks like

a later model (different lugs, should have the "battleship"-kind of lugs, I

suppose)

But, as I stated above, I´m no Pearl expert and so I might have given a bad shot here:confused:

I´m sure that some of the members who are more into Pearls will chime in later on to bring way more light into this as I am able to do.

Hope this helped a little bit anyway.

Cheers

Hi Lissy,

i am thrown by the lugs and badging? i have been looking on the net for pearl drums and i have found a couple of kits that come close.

i have asked the seller a couple of questions, so its a matter of waiting on there response. the kit is located 2 hours from where i live, so i may get myself a cheap kit for my 8 year old boy to bang away on.

thanks for the response as well.

Hi Boora,

as I said, I´m no Pearl-guy, I just know what I´ve learned from this great forum.

So I don´t know exactly in which time period Pearl used these lugs, I just thought they might be older - because as far as I know, Pearl changed to the "diamond-shape"-lugs in the early 70s?

But it might also be possible that they offered different designs in different markets. So I´ve read around here about Japanese kits that were available in the US but never appeared in the European market in some configuration and vice versa.

Nevertheless, if you can score this kit for little money as an entry kit for your boy, I think you won´t get as much drums for the money in another place - quite the contrary, you´ll get a way better kit than buying one of these modern MICs for your son. These Pearls seem to be fairly good kits, and if you´re working a bit on them (e.g. bearing edges) they mostly sound pretty good!

So I wish you good luck on this deal! Ah, and would you please be so kind and post the information you´ll probably get from the seller - would be very interesting to learn more about this special kit! I´m always eager to learn.

Cheers

I have only been on this forum for a week or so, but have learnt heaps and my eyes are so sore from reading all posts re: pearl kits late 70's - early 80's....

I just got to wait and see what the sellers knows about the kit and what mods he has done. Thanks for your info, it has helped me somewhat.

I think these drums have been modified.

The badges were used from late 60's to late 70's, although in the 70's there usually was an additional badge/sticker saying Wood/Fiberglass or Fiberglass shell.

Bass drum legs, late 60's to early 70's.

The tom holders were introduced mid 70's but I have never seen those in combination with the older bass drum legs.

On the first picture you can see a cymbal mount on the bass drum. This indicates that the original kit only had one tom.

If you look at the the Pearl catalogs at vintagedrumguide.com there is no trace of this "Pearl white" wrap on any kit made after 1970.

So, my guess is, late 60's, one tom added, tom mounts and holders changed to later Pearl or Pearl-copy mounts.

If the drums are late 60's they should be rather thin Luan shells without re-rings.

Just noticed, both toms are 12" -yet another indication that one of them has been added later.

As for the snare.....I haven't got a clue
