re-tacking tacked heads

Loading...

From jespo

O.. I forgot to ask. What is the recommend way to clean and revive the bottom heads? Is mink oil good for them?

I can retack heads if you need to have it done. For keeping calf fresh I sometime use shea butter, which is the same thing I use to keep the heads on my djembe's plyable and playable.

Hmmm... you are in Ct... I'm in the Western MA area. I'd really like to have new calf skins tacked on. Would you happen to have a rough estimate? We can take this off line if needed.

Thanks! :)

I tacked a few old toms and I posted a thread with some photos and detailed info on how I did it. If you're interested I will look for the link.

Yes - with your drums it would be a good idea to have them professionally re-tacked.

My method and retacking system is something out of a Frankenstein movie haha.

Here's one of the links. I was sure I put a very detailed description on how I did this in a thread. It might have been on another Forum.

I'll keep looking.

Here's another thread with more information (Kona1984 - that's me....same drum of course).

I've tacked a 10, 14 and 16 tom and I'm satisfied with the outcome of all these drums. I had to retack the 10 because it wore through from resting on the metal edges of a snare basket. I paint them now and pad the holders. I try to have the least possible contact on the reso head as it rests on whatever I use = that will allow the tom to resonate as much as possible. And I can use a studio ring or Moon Gel where needed.

Just checked out your link. Wow! Nice work! You are setup for this kind of work and have the experience. I'll be leaving this job to the pro's. Thanks!
