Jazzfest found in Pawn Shop Last viewed: 7 seconds ago

A friend of mine saw this at a pawn shop and texted me a pic of it Friday. I was there when they opened the doors saturday! lol, Anyway. The throw says ludwig classic. Its not the typical P83. Is this strainer original. If not it bolted into the original strainer holes. The best I can tell it was made 4/2/1972. Is this correct buy the date label? The serial number on the badge indicates 1971. It had to have two extra holes! :( Im sure they arent original. No holes would just be too good to be true!!LoLoLoLo

I guess its time to experiment in filling holes in the shell and wrap. I now have two silver sparkle jazzfest snares with extra holes.

I'm sure you have already figured it out ... but just in case ...

That's actually not a 908P Ludwig Jazz Festival Model snare. It's a 900P Ludwig Super Classic Model snare. It's printed on the label inside the drum.

I hate seeing these great vintage drums with extra holes in them. I wish people knew they were perfect they way they are.

Here is something I did with a Silver Sparkle drum of mine with extra holes.

I stupidly drilled 2 extra holes per lug, "one by accident" in this lugless Camco Bass drum shell I got 33 years ago so I could install some Ludwig Lugs I had and use it as a extra bass drum at small gigs etc. It was only 5 years old at the time and I had no clue of the eventual value of the drum. I recently put after market lugs on it that fit the existing holes on the reso side to complete the drum I now often use when performing. The holes were in front of each Ludwig lug towards the reso side. I had plugged them with wood glue and the brown filling bugged me to death. I went to the Dollar store and bought a package of glitter glue that contained Red, Silver, and Gold Sparkle glue and filled the top of each hole with the Silver Sparkle Glue. Now you can't even see where the holes were. The silver glitter matched perfectly. You have to really get down and eyeball it to notice. Just a idea and remedy that worked great for me. Bet it would work on that snare. Also Poppy. Let me know if you ever want to part with one of those snares. I have another Silver Sparkle classic Ludwig set and would love to eventually have a matching snare.

Great idea! I've done the same myself. There's a modeler's product called Crystal Clear that works well filling in small divits, holes in wrap. ( used to make windows in planes, cars, etc.) Goes on like elmer's glue, can span gaps with a thin coating and dries clear. You can tint it too.

Wow.

Sometimes I wonder why I don't check pawn shops out more often...

I may try that as well...although I think you may end up finding that you have to look for pawn shops that specialize in music gear. I could be wrong, but Id bet that many general pawn shops won't carry music stuff...they tend to focus on average joes. I went to a local music pawn shop here and it was total junk...

I try to check pawn shops but sometimes they want way too much for something. I want to find those backwood, hole-in-the wall shops that may have some old drum buried in there.

Yeah, most of what I've seen in the past locally is enty-level JUNK that they want way too much for anyway... which is why I don't check 'em out very often. About like CL in my area. And garage sales. I got all excited once over a garage sale classified ad that my wife pointed out had "drum set" in its list of items. So, I decided I'd take my wife garage sale-in' that Saturday -- only to find out that "drums et" was a fairly new "First Act" (or something like that) cheapo that was originally purchased at Walmart (and kid-sized to boot!).

BUT, I do get encouraged when someone finds something like this one!
