That kit looks absolutely stunning Aaron !

I have never been a big fan of blue sparkles but this one made me think different.

Congratulations.

I see you are using gaskets under the lugs,... any particular reason ?

See you in a couple of weeks.

Hey John,So...I'm about to order the feet like you're suggesting...but will they stay on since they are 10.5mm and the old Ludwig legs only 9.5mm?

The easy thing to do is add a bit of electrical tape first. It won't take much. A better suggestion would be to put a piece of heat shrink tubing on there. It would be very clean and be easy to remove if necessary.

Purdie is way on point about the rubber feet. Well worth the money and then some. Actually, getting away from the straight legs will improve the sound of the tom as well. That is going too far for some purists though. :-)

I am not a huge fan of blue and red sparkle as it just reminds me of the really cheap (MIJ) drums available back in the day. Your kit looks really fantastic though. Very nice!

Thanks for the tip...I ordered them and will get them next week. I'll let you guys know how much I like them. As for moving away from the straight legs...not gonna happen on this kit...those babies are og from 1958!

Hey Stef,

Thanks a lot! Blue sparkle was not my first choice (I was originally thinking black diamond pearl), but I don't like the small pattern they make these days...I like the old big pattern. Also, I wanted to pick a wrap that was available in 1958 and the blue sparkle matches the trans badges very nicely!

As for the gaskets...I'm using them for no other reason than to protect the wrap...not sure if they change/help the sounds at all...I didn't experiment. My new 2006 Ludwig kit has gaskets under the lugs and so I got the idea to do it on this kit. This kit was already not going to be an original restoration, so I made it my own, just a little bit. That is also why I left the Classic cymbal arm mount on it...the holes were already there.

Yes...I will see you in June...but without these drums, of course.

John...I sure have! You were right, man...the kick sounds awesome with those feet and my floor tom resonates for days! Been meaning to tell you about that. Good looking out, man!

Thanks a lot, man...she's been doing fantastic as my main kit...best of both worlds...vintage shells...new wrap...can use vintage 60's flat-base hardware or my DW flat-base hardware.

You should definitely get some of those feet.
