Great lookin kits guys keepem coming!
This is my first post to the forum! I hope you enjoy this kit that I just purchased a few months ago from my percussion professor who used to work at Ludwig in product development in the 50's. The kit was built in late January of 1959 upon special request from my professor. Note: the snare drum is a brass 5x14 Supraphonic 400 which was plated black in the factory (not a consumer option). I am just starting some restoration on this kit, mostly just changing heads and cleaning up the chrome and tension rods. Hope you enjoy!
Dimensions:
9x13 inch tom
16 inch tom
20 inch bass drum
5x14 snare drum
Late 50's Zildjian 14 inch hi-hats and 18 inch ride
Early 60's Zildjian 18 inch riveted cymbal
There is one tension rod mission on the kit and unfortunately is on the resonant side on the snare drum. If any knows where I could get a replacement for this rod, and snare wires let me know! (The wires are a bit bent but they straighten up under tension, and the cat gut strings that attached the snare wires to the drum just crumbled when I took it off to replace the head.)
I'm glad I caught this thread. It's inspired me to go back to the workshop and take pics of all my works in progress. Here are some photos I already have(before I got my new camera), so stay tuned for A LOT more Ludwigs as that's all I own and there must be over 70 of them by now...My approach is different..not pristine catalog shots, but more like "here's what's stashed in my workshop." Much more to follow in coming days! Yes Sir
My Ludwig Standard set, 1968 - 12, 13, 16, 22Added wood hoops and claws, inlay is cut - still need to put something in. Probably going to go plain black strip of something. Still have the original hoops and the original tom holder/brackets.
Zac, if you are in no hurry, I may have some Ruby Strata for you to use as inlays. It would match you kit much better than black. AS long as you have some patience and remind me in June. I've got too many irons in the fire right now to get to it, but things should clear up after May... PM me then...
Thanks to a nice trade with member Justin Headley, I became a Ludwig owner (other than a still-in-the-box new Black Beauty) about 5 hours ago. This is a early '67 Hollywood kit (date stamps of JAN 9, 10, 12 and 12 1967) that is probably the nicest one outside of a museum. I can't wait to play them at a private party this Saturday!
MANY thanks to Legacy drummer for looking at lots of pics and giving me a crash course on late 60s Ludwig kits and what to look for!

That would be amazing!
I considered going down that path, but hunting down matching wrap was a mission I didn't want to attempt!
I'll put a note in my diary.
