Mystery wraps

I have seen these types of wraps before. These are the type that were made in or about 1960 and were used on drums M.I.J.The wraps are very thin with no color backing. Most if not all of the M.I.J. drums i have seen were painted a flat white paint on the outside of the shell, because these wraps are so thin that you would see the wood shell under them...P.S to you Larry Thanks for the gift you sent me that was so cool of you to do i use it everyday. Why iam watching T.V.....Mikey

Thanks for all the input. "Calfskin"'s theory makes sense. I should experiment with different color backings, etc. I think I'll end up using vintage shells, with a mix of hardware. Wood shells only. Or have metal shells ever been wrapped? Maybe some stripes?

( wrap#2 is more greenish than the pic, with fishbone like pattern and green and red blotches.)

I'm thinking of using 3m spray adhesive to make the wrap sticky and workable. I may have to use low heat to smooth the sheets out.The lugs would help hold it down, too. Any better suggestions for the adhesive ?

It will be a bit before I get to this, but I'll try to take pics of work, etc.

Keep all suggestions and ideas coming...nothing is too far out!

Bingo! These wraps will be hard to use with woodgrain showing, but I'll do some tests. If anyone needs a small piece to fix your drumwrap, let me know.

Glad you like the mug, Mikey! I do my best to make "Fine" art (nyuk, nyuk) for the masses, not just for museums. Now, be careful with that hammer and saw...

Here's wrap #5 (the last one) on a Slingerland snare. It was already stripped of wrap, but rough and painted gray inside. I simply cleaned parts, sanded shell, filed holes from muffler and wrapped. The outer wood was/is mahogany; it goes well I think with the wrap I chose. The piece used was my biggest; other drums will be pieced together wraps. The wrap seems to be mostly pinkish turning to bronze in areas.( or visa versa?) My first re-wrap.
