"I'm leaning towards putting a regular wooden hoop on the back (at least -- maybe front, too) anyway. Slingerland had a "Cocktail Outfit" with a bass drum with wood hoop on batter side / Sticksaver on front during the same era, and since mine won't be quite right anyway (as a Jet) I don't mind "borrowing" from another Slingerland configuration..."

For sure wood hoops also provide options for your choice of pedals.

Before I traded my Jet, I had to have the bracket refitted as it had developed a lot of play in the hinge assy & sat at a slight angle to the BD.

(Had to use a wooden hoop on the batter side for a few months).

Cheers

(idrum4fun, That was a nice one)

Hey Bill! Looks like fun. I ave a rail mount, not Sling, but for what I'd do it to you for, who cares? I am thinning out my parts and stuff. I can send you pics.

Send the pics!

And hey, I've got a 14x22, 9x13 and 8x12 60s MIJ in blue sparkle, needs a FT. I've been going to clean it up & find a FT but I've got SO much to do ahead of it that I'm thinking I may just give it to you for your project. That way I'm not moving it every time I turn around! It needs a few parts and a good cleaning.

I'm about an-hour-and-a-half north of Tulsa, but am thinking that sometime before summer I may head towards OKC on a "drum run" (what my wife & I call a "pickin' trip").

Interested?

Thanks,

Bill

Opinions, please!

OK guys... this repro is getting my attention (finally) this afternoon.

I've got a couple of small holes to fill in the 12x14 & 12x18 where the marching mounts were located.

Now, for the question... all three of these drums have the clear interiors. On the 8x12 the interior is in really good shape, but the 12x14 & 12x18 not-so-good. Going to take a lot of prep. I'm thinking (since I've got these holes to fill) about just replicating the "chocolate milk" interior (as close as possible) of the 70s on all three... thoughts, please?

Since this isn't a "true" reproduction anyway, I thought this might be OK...

Thanks,

Bill

Well, nobody came forth with opinions for the interior... so they have been painted. I used Krylon "Pebble" Satin, which comes close to the "chocolate milk" color Slingerland used in the 70s but not a perfect match.

I've decided to keep the smaller lugs on the BD, and have drilled the lug holes on the resonant side of the 12x18 and 12x14. The 8x12 and 12x14 will get standard Slingerland sticksaver rims, the BD will get regular wood hoops (at least that's what I'm leaning towards at this point).

I haven't drilled holes for the FT leg brackets or the BD spurs, as I'm still considering generic Gibraltar parts. I've got Slingerland spur brackets, but getting Slingerland FT leg brackets cost too much!

These are pretty much ready for wrap. And I haven't decided what to do yet. I was going to get a couple of sheets of the "Modern Bermuda Sand" (which is sorta like the old Champagne Sparkle), but have actually been considering green sparkle. Any opinions will be welcomed.

The original badges will be reinstalled on the 3 shells after the wrap.

And, these will be for sale when finished, so if anyone is interested in making a deal before completed to have wrap choice, I'm all ears.

Sorry, no pics at the moment. I'm at work right now (a slow day) and don't have access to them.

Thanks,

Bill

Hi Bill, sounds like things are moving along nicely on this. Thanks for the tip on the paint color too. My bass shell was painted black inside and I'm going to prime and paint it in the next month or so. The rest of my shells are the factory paint with is really thin or just faded. I can see the "P" stamps in them so I know they are original still. I was going to try to match something close and just go with it. Not a lot of color info out there and from what I've read a lots of different shades too. Some paint also applied heavy and gloppy and some very thin. I think they were at the end of the can when mine were done. LOL. Glenn. :)

Hey Glenn, good to visit with you again.

Just a reminder that the Krylon Pebble Satin is not an exact match, just close (and close enough for ME, but that don't always transmit to everyone!). And, I much prefer the Satin over the other options (Gloss, Semi-gloss, and Flat).

You're right about Slingerland and their interior paint jobs. They obviously did not have a set standard at the factory. Just whoever did it on whichever shift, I guess. Ludwigs weren't always the same, either, but overall much more consistent.

Hey, still holding on to that BD...

Hi Bill, yes roger that on the color. Close enough is good for me too. I'm going to hit Home Depot here this weekend and see if they have it. Satin is a nice finish too I agree. Good chatting with you. I still hope to grab that bass from you someday too. :)

Well, I'm not hurtin' right now, so I'm just saving it for you.

As soon as this "insurance" stuff gets settled, I've got a couple of purchases to make from VDF members, too. Hopefully that will all be settled by the end of the week, first of next at the latest!
