Hello vintage drum enthusiasts. I am a guitarist/keyboardist who has come into possession of an early Max Roach Model snare, pre-1954 I would say by virtue of the lugs. The wrapping and metal is in poor condition, but all the parts are there and it has apparently not been tampered with. Interestingly, there is no muffler and it appears never to have had one. I would be interested in informal or formal appraisal of this snare for sale value. I was thinking in its current condition it might be worth $400 or if restored more like $2500. Your input is appreciated. I live in the SF Bay Area btw.

RadioKing I am sorry I just saw this question & this post by the way! It must have been dug up from the past. Anyway the answer is yes, at least all the drums that I have from Gretsch that are RB 3 ply clear interior drums are stamped. This snare is Sept 15 (I think) 1952. I have other 3 ply clear interior Gretsch drums that are stamped at various dates in 1951.
By the way this snare originally made with a Renown strainer that was replaced long ago by the original owner with a micro sensitive, there were several small extra holes to also change the standard 2 point butt to a later 4 point, and then a single point (by me). I have had the drum returned to its original configuration with a renown strainer & 2 point butt by Jack Lawton.
It is a cool drum!
