Beautiful vintage CROWN Kit need some info

Loading...

Beautiful Crown *** kit, Just pulled these out of storage, and fell back in love with them! If anyone has any info on these please let me know!!

Looking to find out the year, and more about Crown. Also what the value of these things may be.

In great shape wraps, look mint, only one bubble on bass drum. Still have the mounted baffles that have been takin out of the toms. Everything seems original, missing the bass drum legs.. Due to lack of storage I may have to part with these...

Nice old kit,and congrats on keeping them safe over the years. Like any MIJ kit these will not be worth a lot...unfortunately just by the origin of them and the inconsistancies...If you want to sell let me know what you need.

Wow,What a clean set..Crown drums were made by Pearl from 1965-1974.The badges would date your set from 1969-74 the color is B.O.P. shells are 7 or 9 ply basewood. The set looks to be a 12,13,16,22..Crown was the only M.I.J. sets that had 8 lug 12",13" toms they also had the 10 Lug bass drums. Most of the M.I.J drums in the 60's only had 6 lugs on the toms and bass drums, some had 8 lugs on the 16" floor toms also the bass .On Pearl top of the line sets in 1971 also had 10 lug bass drums..I also see on the 16 and 22 that you still have the Crown heads on them thats cool..I would say if you are going tpo sell the 4 drums 300.00-350.00 would be a fair price to ask....Mikey

Very nice kit and well done keeping them so pristine all these years. If you do a little searching around this site, you'll find that quite a bit has been written about Crowns. Mikey is right on with his definition of your set. I have an earlier version Crown 20/12/14 which dates to 1966. A couple of identifying difference between mine and yours are that the earlier ones were 3-ply with re-rings and had wood bass drum hoops. The other major thing is that mine are believed to have been manufactured by Star (Tama) and yours by Pearl. But a lack of official provenance is what makes these MIJs so interesting.

One last thing, you may find that with some new heads and fine tuning these drums sound better than you remember. The age can do wonders.

Congratulations and thanks for sharing the pics.

Guess these badges are the only ones of all drum companies which can easily be read from in front of a wide stage easily. :D

Quite in opposite to these blatant badges, the 8 lug toms and the 10 lug bass drum give it a touch of elitist. Nice!

Speaking of badges, here's the earlier era Crown badge from the 60's. These were originally on my kit but sadly are now long gone. I hadn't seen it referenced anywhere before on VDF.

My Crown badge is the more common oval Worlds supreme quality" badge we see every where...Is it still a 60,s kit?

That would be my guess as the script logo seems to have drifted into the 70's but the best way to tell is to look for the reinforcement rings. Those are 3-plys from the 60's.
