Oh man... My first kit was a Crown from about '66... my folks bought it for me. Same badge, three ply with rings, gold sparkle, 20, 12, 14.
That kit is gorgeous! I'd keep it!

Speaking of badges, here's the earlier era Crown badge from the 60's. These were originally on my kit but sadly are now long gone. I hadn't seen it referenced anywhere before on VDF.
GWM, The badge on your floor tom would date your drum from 1961-63.Nice looking drum you have...Mikey
Crown, as well as a lot more "name brands" or stencil brands, were made by both Star and Pearl. The contract shifts were due to two factors...competition and capacity. Star, at the time, had much smaller production capacity than did Pearl. Therefore you will find some stencil names from the same era that have the same name, but are markedly different, by hardware.
Wayne's kit, by virtue of the badge alone, is a Star, whereas your kit is a Pearl built kit.
We know this through exhaustive research and scrutiny, knowing the hardware by sight, normally. Sometimes we get it wrong and heated debate follows. Just follow along, learn to discern the hardware, one from the other, and you will be an expert soon enough.Clapping Happy2
So as I look at all the different, and highly desirable, MIJ/European/American kits, I'm wondering if the tonal quality of a 3 ply shell w/ rings and a 6-9 ply shell dating from the 60's - 70's can be described simply as more boomy or more thuddy? Could some ones please enlighten me on the differences in tone this variation in construction produces, or is this too complicated a question to tack on to this thread about a beautiful Crown kit?
Thanks gurus,
Brian
