I restored this kit in the mid 90s and put a lot of work into it ... one of the previous owners put a pretty good sized hole in the top of the bass drum ... I have a Shure kick mike mounted with a May system and the mic in covers this hole very nicely 1964 Ludwig Club Date kit 22,12,14 the 5 by 14 snare I picked up later 1961 Ludwig Pioneer in mahogany ...

That's a sweet one. Was it originally wrapped or painted? My guess would be it was a Duco finish because the maple ply is to the outside on the shells. I love Clubbies. Great sounding kits. I've done Blues gigs with them and they can really hold their own in a gig/band situation.
Welcome to VDF!
John
there were some early clubdates that had a cymbal mount(disappearing) that was dead center where your hole is. purdie shuffle and i both had a kit with such but they were trans badge and pre serial models.
yours look great. nice neat room too. i dig that a lot.

Thanks guys ! when I got this kit in the mid 80s the only piece with the original finish was the floor tom (painted black lacquer ) someone who had no clue had tried to refinish the kick (the hole looks hand made but at one time it may have been for a cymbal mount ) I don't get to play out much anymore due to my job but this was my main gig kit for years and it really holds it own in any situation. what size kicks do your clubbies have ? I've seen a lot with 20s not so many like mine with 22s ... really dig this site ! oh ! and Purdee I see you have a 49 Leedy snare is there a pic ... I have my restored 3 piece 49 Broadway Standard kit posted also ... That 49 Blue Badge is very rare ! Thanks for the warm welcome !
Keith
LOL - coincidentally, I just finished posting pix of the Leedy on your other thread about the kit! I'll post them again here for you as I don't mind showing it off at all.
It was a painted mess when I got it. The only regret I have is; the silk screened paint on the badge came off when I stripped the goopy enamel they had painted the entire drum with. Messy, sloppy clean-up job, but it came out great. The strainer and butt are modern reproductions. Wish I could have gotten them in a matching nickel finish.

I'll also include a shot of my much beloved 1959 Trans badge clubbies. (9"x13", 12" x 15", 12" x 20", w/matching Jazzfest snare. Although the J-fest is not in the photo. That's a brass 1910 Nokes/Nicholi snare drum behind the kit!)

Enjoy,

Sweet !!!! I love me some Ludwig Drums ! I masked my badges very carefully and was really lucky they came out as well as they did (I use to finish furniture and had a buddy let me use his shop on both kits) I know that Leedy sounds awesome ! love mine best sounding snare I have ever owned ...
Sorry to hijack this thread but John, where did you get the repro Leedy strainer and butt? Both very, very nice kits! Mr. Zilla, is that kick a 22 or 24?? You have it posted as being both. Just curios.
opps ... My bad ... I have a Leedy kit with a 24 ... The Club Date kit has a 22 kick ... I was wondering where you got that snare setup for your Leedy as well John ? I would like to find legs with the spring and levers set up for my Club Date floor tom ... the threaded rod legs I fabricated are strategically out of view !
Lucky - here ya go bud:
You can call Bentley's directly and avoid Fleabay altogether. Excellent repro. As I mentioned, my only problem with it was that they don't offer them in Nickel - to match the hardware on vintage drums. Otherwise, it's excellent in every way.
Zilla - I'm looking for three 'clipper' leg mounts myself. Have been for months.
John
zilla- i thought that was a 22. mine is a 22 clubdate bass. 22/13/15 orphans with matching pioneer. just got a canister throne for it too but its the new black galaxy wrap from ludwig.
