Does This Offend Anyone?

If I put a Zim Gar tom mount on a Star bass drum, will I be kicked off the forum?

Is it OK to mix Pearl and Tama hardware?

This bass drum came to me with a hole on top that I had capped with a chrome plug, making it "virgin", that is, the tom was mounted on a stand to the side.

Then I cam across this beefy Zim Gar tom mount assembly in really nice shape and have been torn as to put it on or not.

Anyone feel strongly either way? Could the value of this kit be effected?

There are a handful of "wingnuts" here that will slap your wrist, but thats them.Actual drummers that play drums will give you a thumbs up for your creativity. It looks like a nice piece of gear there....Now if these were Gretsch or Ludwigs...Coffee Break2

I agree with Wayne! They're your drums and you can do what you want with them. You also get a big Kudos for using a vintage holder on it! Post pics when the drums are complete!

There you go. Before anyone else can post, you have immediately put down anyone who disagrees with your opinion as a "wingnut" This is how problems begin on this board. What makes your opinion correct? How are you so sure about that? What you are supposed to do is put forth your opinion; and that's what it is - your opinion. I suggest you look up the word "forum" and see what you get.

Surfcollector: it's obviously not a super rare drum and it already has a hole. And it's yours. Some members here disagree with modifying vintage drums and that's their opinion which, last time I checked, was still a right under the First Amendment. Soap Box

My personal rule is to avoid 'drilling' whenever possible. If the mount fits without drilling new holes - no problem. Appears that the tom post hole may not be original anyway, which would have been the first major 'devaluation' factor. If this is the case, then it probably doesn't make too much difference either way if you drill a couple more screw holes. It is still a MIJ kit after all, so it wouldn't necessarily be sacrilege or anything, though it is a rare wrap, (Fantasia pearl?) you have the matching toms and snare?

@ wayne: Hey - you classifying me as a "wingnut" my fellow Canadian??? Dude was asking about 'value' and I gave my 'opinion'. I'm a player, and a collector, and I take care of my gear.

Ahhhhh!!!! Wrong parts!!!! you are doomed to he....nevermind, just kiddin'. That looks like a Star tom arm, so the post and plate really don't matter. Like I say, if you ain't drillin', and it fits like a glove, use it up!

Looks like you would be drilling some mounting holes no matter what you install there.

It has that gnarly hole already, so clearly something should be done.

I think I would look a bit longer for a Star mount first?

As far as hurting the value of the kit, that's been done already, a nicely executed mod might be more helpful than harmful at this point.
