Several months ago, I posted a question concerning Bolero Drums but, was unable to find the responses when I searched the topic. I'd like to sure of a few things. I believe that jonnistix mentioned that they were a "line" of Star (sorry jonni to bother you again). The reason I ask is that my daughter's "friend" has asked me to help him restore his set. That's fine but, I'd like to know a bit about the history of the project. Thanks very much, guys!

Yes Brian, You are right Bolero drum's were made by Star if i recall right late 1969-71 or so...Also if i recall right the are 3 or 4 ply shell/s with ring/s,lug's were a copy of Slingerland...If you need any part's you know who to ask...Mikey

Hi Brian,
Here's pics of my Pearl Bollero kit I picked up locally. The 10 lug snare is the first of the kit restored and sounds sweet! Gigged it out Sunday to the delight of a few folks. The rest of the kit is in process and don't you love the "Baby Blue" Pearl wrap...!!! :) Not pictured is the 12 and 13 toms but they are nice too!

Hmmmmm-Star -BOLERO-Pearl-BOLLERO- The Star Boleros posted here were similar to Royal Star's,with Sonor style lugs.From the early 70's era,quite good quality for MIJ's.Those blue diamond pearl Bollero's are Pearl stencils.

The floor tom lug mount says "PEARL" right on it. I thought Star was managed by Pearl at the time? So there is a Star Bollero and a Pearl Bollero. Popular name.
I'm no MIJ expert so thanks for helping out with the chronology of these drums.

Star was never managed by Pearl, they have always been owned by an independent family company. The parent company is named Hoshino Gakki Group, and they own both Ibanez and TAMA. They were established in 1908.
If you look carefully, you can see the difference in spelling: Star/Bolero Pearl/Bollero
