Help With These Zildjians and Model Etc. Last viewed: 2 hours ago

From Mr.Lud

It's just gotten WAY WAY WAY outta hand. All I wanted was to clean them because I am literally ripping the set into little shards and polishing everything for a new look. I figured a old patina would just make it look bad too. I have gotten a few ideas and looked on other forums for a answer where people feel cleaning them for the sound is a good thing. I might just go over to one of them instead. This has been less than inviting right here. All the questions on the drum set I got like thinking I am not telling the truth. I don't know.

You're alright with me!!!!

Clean 'em if you like, artificially age them later if you change your mind. Pee on them, bury them with bunny poop. Whatever you wish!!!

Keep trying to learn things!!! That's what make the world go 'round!!!

Yeah- I'm THAT guy!!!

Mr.Lud, an apology is due you. I'm sorry you hit these gents on a nerve express. Every one of the gents in this thread is a very cool standup guy. You've just tapped into a topic or two that burns hot within a few. Please consider sticking around and having some fun. You've got a desire to learn and contribute. These guys are walking talking encyclopedic mutants where drums are concerned.

Sabian B8's can be re-hammered and turned into cool cymbals. And if not, you didn't lose much...

No- don't pee on those cymbals!!! If I were your dad and you peed on them, I wouldn't be too happy LOL.

Haha thanks much sir. You all seem very knowledgeable and smart. Much more than myself ya know. I am just 18 I don't know much about them. Thats why I came here is to learn about things.

I agree this is a very touchy subject with people. It appears to some people as if I am killing the whole cymbal by cleaning it. I in my own opinion see it as oxidation, dirt, grease, sweat that is changing the sound away from its original sound it had. I don't care if some drummer 30 years ago never cleaned his cymbals, that doesn't mean its better or even good for the sound. Who knows maybe that song would sound better with more open cymbals. I am just willing to stray outta what most people think is possible or even believable, that's how things get done. Not by being lemmings and all falling off the cliff just cause someone else said so.

People please do not take that the wrong way. I don't mean it to be offensive so please please don't take it that way.

What can I do with them?? Like how does one go about re-hammering and such? I am kinda curious on that maybe I could get a decent sound out of them.

Go to cymbalholics.com and find out. You'll need a wooden form and a nice, clean ball-peen hammer. Just make a pattern (radial, then circles) with a sharpie, then give the pie some nice, even and straight blows. Wear ear protection (you'll need it!!!), and don't do it before 8:00 a.m. or after 10:00 p.m. or you will get a call from the local po po.
