Best Snare Stand for Tom Mounting

Loading...

From vyacheslav

A friend of mine who works at a Mom and Pop music store (and runs the drum department) was showing me an adapter that mounts to the bottom hoop of your tom to make it larger, so it will fit better on a snare stand, and not sound as choked. So you can mount a 10" or 12" on a normal snare stand. It is basically just an extra hoop that goes all the way around, making the drum bigger. I remember it being a really simple, yet cool and effective design.I cannot remember who the company is that makes these, and a web search came up empty. I know they exist though, because I saw them with my own two eyes. I'll get in contact with my buddy, and I'll get back to this thread as soon as I hear.

wow, that sounds interesting!

I use a Pearl S-2000 with my 58 and 2011 Gretsch drums - it works fine and - as stated above - it has good adjustment features. It's build like a tank, stays put - I like that because I don't want it tipping over on my drums.

Hello, I'm going to be assembling/restoring a 1970s ludwig kit and I've chosen to mount my tom in a stand instead of on the bass drum. I've always liked the way it looks but I'm having a bit of trouble finding the right one (not too bulky as most modern hardware seems to be). What do you use? Would an older wfl flat-base stand work for this? Thanks

I would like to register my vote for not using a snare stand. The tom tom is not a snare drum. I would use the period-correct tom tom mounting system. If handled properly, the old systems will work forever. I have some 50 and 60 year old drum sets with fully functional original tom mounting hardware. I'm just an old fashioned drum guy.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

you know, i would with any other kit. if it was an earlier ludwig, say 60s or 50s i would definitely do a period correct restore, but this is a later 70s model (still a great sounding drum however) and i'm kinda just interested in having a quality sounding, easy to transport set-up at the moment. this particular kit wouldn't be that easy to restore anyway considering that the wrap is metal and scuffed/dented (but so far i'm making leeway on getting it off. my plan is to re-wrap it in vintage red sparkle...kinda make something a little more modern into something older, a concept i've seen on the forum here before. i may not patch the tom mount hole however, just in case i do decide to use it in the future.

I will relent on my opinion about a snare stand since you are working on using this as a beater kit instead of restoring any particular vintage vibe.

I scored a 50's Radio King 13 tom.It weighs as heavy as a floor tom!NO way a hoop mount will keep it up on a smaller kick

Never underestimate the strength, versatility, and adaptability of a rail consolette in good condition.
