Well, those are mine. I asked my friend to sell them since I was buried with a ton of other projects. They do indeed need some work, but they aren't insurmountable. He also has a poopy camera...Want some better pictures? I can get them tomorrow, so let me know.

Two times your money? Plus the parts that you need for the snare?... Mikey

...oh, the shells I am not sure about, but I don't think they would be "Accousticon"

I didn't really mean Acousticon, I'm just recalling (without the drum in front of me) that the inside doesn't look like wood to me, more like the smooth side of masonite. Pearl's fiberglass wasn't smooth like my shell, but maybe they cooked up new shells for the Vari-Pitch series?

Mr B, you would know far more about them than I...I was being a smart-alec. I think this is one of those threads that needs a little levity. But, on the other hand I am a know-it-all and could profess to know it all...but I won't...anybody got a good, hot cuppa joe? I really need it, my 'spresso machine is out of order and I just don't really like 7-11 coffee.

OK, but seriously, I think the "Accousticon" shells might just be that wonderful mix of goo that in the 70's Pearl was calling "Phenolic Shells", is that possible?

I have a bunch of the phenolic shelled drums from Pearl 69-72 and they are a bit different than the Remo Acousticon drum I also have here to compare. The Acousticon shell seems trying to reproduce a feel of wood yet fails and reminds one more of cardboard- it is softer than phenolic. The phenolic is a bit more dense, heavier in weight and more rigid. But they are both composite shells.Chewie:

Hi Mike,

Well I hadn't seen those things except for about fifteen minutes last July after I bought them, and then dropped 'em off at Dana's shop. When I took these pictures on Thursday, I had a chance to look at them closely... I've told Dana to not take a cent less than what he has them listed for on eBay. They aren't all that bad. I think the surface rust will come off easy enough (hope so anyway). If they don't sell I'm going to bring them home and do the restoration.
