What is the name of TAMA's 80's pedal

Loading...

What is the name of the TAMA bass drum pedal from around 1987? Sounds something like Hydra or Hydro!? It didn't have a regular exposed return spring, but rather an air shock or something that has an adjustable knob on the bottom of it. I need to know the name of it, what a mint pedal is worth today and any specs on it. I also have the TAMA hi-hat from the same time with the adjustable shock thingy. I need to know about it as well and how much it might be worth in great condition. Thanks. I am reluctantly parting with my Imperialstar set and Avedis Zildjian cymbals, which are mint condition that I bought at the same time as these pedals. Have had them for around 25 years and never a lick of a problem with any of it. I always thought that when I died someday, that I would be buried with it all. That's what I used to tell everyone. but I have no good place to keep anymore and I don't want moisture to take its toll on it. Very Very Sad time for me. :( All I have left is a used Mapex M-Birch with Sabians on it. Not the same. Almost like toys compared to my TAMA.

The pedal with the big shock absorber is called the King Beat, same name as the snare. In mint shape you would be lucky to get $25 for it. Same with the Titan hihat stand, maybe you will get a little more, possibly $35. I have 3 of the Titan HH stand and I would be thrilled if someone gave me $30 for one.

The equipment is great but its heavy and very plentiful. You'll see them on ebay and they are not big money sellers, especially the pedal. Its just too big. You'll see people ASK for more, but they rarely get it.

Good luck.

Good grief.... Then I'm pretty sure that my TAMA stuff is worth more to me for sentimental value than trying to sell it I guess. It's a shame, because these drums, pedals, hi-hats and stand are all heavy duty, but I never had a problem with them. But when I was younger, it didn't seem so heavy. Now, it's like being behind a big army tank. Got to give credit for my Mapex for such light stuff and still takes a beating as well though. But the Mapex just isn't my TAMA set. Such finely detailed chrome and hardware. I never owned a Harley Davidson, but being behind my TAMA set all these years, it's almost like behind on one. lol. Sucks that I feel the need to sell it just to save it from a bad environment. And of course, financially dire situations.

The drums should bring 500-600, they sell well and with all the original equipment it might bump a little. In better times that kit, depending on color, would bring 750, but...prolly not right now.

Now the cymbals, if in good condition and of course depending what they are, size-wise and sound could bring some cash.

Exactly. Fashion or other factors means that you can´t always get what equipment is "worth".

And you will never get another kit that can give you that sentimental value.

Keep them, if you need the space, dismantle them, take off the lugs on and the tom mount of the 12", so it will fit inside the 13. Buy a cheap bass drum bag, all the shells will then fit inside. Put the stands (if you don´t use them) away, well oiled to protect the chrome.

Take it out in ten years time, buy new heads and enjoy it - and if you don´t, sell it then if you like.

+1 ..Keep the Tama's...sell the Mapex kit if you need cash..Those vintage Imperialstars sound way better anyway. This market will turn around eventually and vintage Tama drums and hardware will be highly collectable.

I have to agree with everyone. Sell the Mapex. Old Tama drums are cool. Imperialstars are what Stewart Copeland played so that makes them classic in my book. What color are yours? My fav is the Royal Pewter which was the silvery light blue color.

This would be my suggestion... Sell the Mapex, keep the Tama's. If you've got no room, store 'em like Jon said.

If you go on ebay now some one put one up for a Buy It Now of $72 with $20 for shipping. I wonder if bidders will pick that one over the other one on there for $50 which includes shipping. I sold one 3 months ago for $35 shipped after listing it for 2 months. The best way to get an idea of what they are worth (and anything else you are thinking of selling) would be to watch these auctions.
