A Must Read C/L Listing

Loading...

The seller is one of two things:

1) An artist. Good luck trying to convince an artist that their creation is less than appealing. The eye of the beholder and all that............

2) Completely and totally making fun of Craig's list ads that are serious when they try to sell this stuff. Remember that million dollar kit that if you burned it the ashes would reincarnate someone or something like that? The guy who got screwed over by the music business? Yeah, this guy could be having an laugh with a deadpan presentation.

I'm pretty sure - from the information I've read (excluding this CL add haha) that the Gretsch/CB connection is only that Kaman Music is the destributor for Gretsch's offshore made drums and Kaman Music - maybe the worlds largest music destributor? - has a connection with CB drums as well. But I think that's where it ends. I would be very surprised if Gretsch actually has anything to do with making CB drums.

And I'm not dis-ing CB drums.....

Speaking of C B's...........I'll have to email him and ask if he knew about the Gretsch connection :-)

Four of the nine responses. Do you know this guy? There seems to be a lot of venom aimed at him from your direction. Why? Admittedly, he's got a strange listing, but this all seems a bit overboard. Contact him or the powers that be and pass on the information. That would be the most healthy option.I honestly thought his stone instruments were pretty cool. I would imagine they would have some fairly unique sounds. A stone hand drum sounds like it would be a blast to play.

RogerSling..I did not post this to get you upset at me.The reason i did is because i see many listing on C/L like this.I just wanted to point this listing out trying to see new vintage drum collecters that some things are not what they seem to be...The listing does state the CB 700 drums were made by Gretsch and used the same shells as Gretsch and hardwear this is very far from the truth..These drums have not a thing to do with Gretsch..This was my point on posting this one listing...He even has the year wrong on these drums they are not from the 80's these are from the 70's..I did email them and told then all this in a nice way...Mikey

Hey Mikey. That post was not directed at you. That was to the Bunny due to his heavy handed treatment of all this. But, he explained it all and ... blah blah blah.

I traded a few emails with the seller.....no I'm not interested in buying these beautiful gold drums....he said he has now taken the referrence to Gretsch out of the ad. I didn't look to see.

His latest email to me pointed to a link in the PearlDrum Forum where there was a post mentioning Gretsch and CB have Mahogany shells. I think he concluded....via maybe willful blindness....that Gretsch makes CB???

Still no info in his emails on the "Dremel-like" tooled (custom job looks like) hihat cymbal.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

I think I have the story on the hi hat:

Sabian Custom Dark hi hat- he thinks if he would have dremeled off some of the top layer of the cymbal, it then makes it a "custom" cymbal. The oxidation from the resultant material removal will then make it "dark".
