A Vintage Drummer

O.K. Here's the one that will knock your socks off!

My Dad got married New Year's Eve day and of course had to postpone his honeymoon so he could make the big bucks doing a gig New Year's Eve...I was born one year later on December 30.....he worked every New Year's Eve until 1970 when he retired......15 years later, I visited him at the nursing home on my way to my New Year's Eve gig in 1986 and went to my job at a country club in Palm Beach.....at 11:30 p.m. I got a call from my wife that my Dad passed away New Year's Eve ...had to finish the gig....I guess St. Peter needed a good drummer for his New Year's Eve party!

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

[QUOTE=vintagemore2000;123867]to which bass drum are you referring?,[/QUOTE anyway, if your referring to the leedy kit, it's a stock rail mount all companies had them if your referring to the radio kings, I've already addressed it, it's part of a mount for a console.

Did you notice the heater connection on the bass drum in the solo photo....he had to heat his calfskin heads when he played outside at the bandshell on Miami Beach...he also tucked his own calfskin heads on wood rims in the bathtub...it was a major job.

A pro drummer back in the day would of had to have that as common knowledge tucking heads etc, also the Radio King snare drum has a heating element in it also, here is a pic of a leedy I had that used three light bulbs to do two things at once the lights heated up the calf heads to keep themfor de tuning, and also the lights alternated between the three colors so to give a flare to the perfomance.
