from what i read about some of these stencil pearl kits i can only say maybe in truth they are a sleeper set i played my 69 pearl kit out for 20 years as my only kit with oil heads on them the last decade and they always amazed me at the sound i always received compliments from other drummers at gigs and never paid it no mind, there is a blog going around on these kits and before it was the rap that enticed buyers and price they r cheap cheap , but now there saying with good heads ( which i can attest ) they sound like pro sets so i sold mine after all theses years for 150 and they need restored but i think maybe that person that bought them got a sweet deal so maybe the price is out of line to some 2k but to others it mite become the next thing in collectable drums who knows the japs drove our prices up by buying our old school USA kits so now maybe there turn has come all im saying is they can sound good especially the 9 ply drums so this is a market to watch but i think it will be a while before most drums (USA) get so out of reach that the *** drums become a second chioce because of price points 2 k id rather buy a Ringo kit personally or 1 vintage k cymbal

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

OK. Let me begin by saying that is possible to find maple in some of the later Pearl stencil kits (early to mid 70s).

The interior ply or veneer in some of the Pearl built kits is a maple veneer. I have personally owned some of these shells and they do sound amazing. That said, ain't no way. Those are still 300-400 at the most. Get some good, hi resJumping2 shots of the shells, edges, interiors....the whole thing, and email them to me. I can tell you, Coronet is never going to be a 2k kit, at least in our lifetime...

if its the same ad i think it is, you'll be glad to know that his original listing price was $3850, then $2550, now $750

quite a drop over 3 weeks... apparently his "thousands on upgrades" might be feeling a "reality pinch"
