Good point.

Actually, the snare has plastic heads on top and bottom. I didnt notice that untill yesterday. And I think they are stock 13 inch heads, too. The shell looks in good shape.

hey, that's so good. it will make such a difference if you can use off the shelf heads. good thing the hoops weren't profiled.

Oddball,

I'm fully planning on buying new 22 inch hoops, probably metal ones. No big deal there. I'll have to, in order to use 22 inch heads on the bass.

Calfskin:

Dont I know it!! The snare and tom are both the exact same size (wierd!) , just a shade under 13 inches, so yes, my goal is to use 4 stock 13 inch heads. I *may* have to change the single flange hoops to 13's, but thats not too big of a deal. Its making the 13 inch hoop fit with the lugs that is the tricky part , but I think I have a plan there too. (very thin washers under the lugs to "push" them out just a hair) . Drumfactory direct has beautiful chrome 13 inch SF hoops also. They will look great on the snare.

Oddball:

yes, I cant see why not...its the thickness of the hoop that matters, not if its wood or metal. I dont see any problem there.

OK,..I was just wondering because when they hem the metal rims over, they don`t squeeze them and I never had a wood hoop to compare thicknesses !!

I saw a 50`s kit similar to yours online with a you-tube sound file, he is useing a 20`s double bass pedal Sonor made back then !! For six lugs that BD has grapefuits !!

i just went through a new complete list of Remo heads----- they are really into handdrumming heads now and they have an extensive listing of Tympani heads , right down to specific ones for specific makers. There are some 12 .5 inch heads for certain handdrums and the dropdown and profile of some of them are reasonably close to a kitdrum head. Some are calf, some are goat and some are fibreskyn AND there is a 21 10/16" Tympani head in the standard line(without tension rings). Model # is T1 2010-00 and it is about 80.00. The Fibreskyn version is about 150.00.
