just picked up this Hayman kit

Hi

What a great kit, congrats.

Curious about what you think of the sound as you live with it. From what I have read the interior finish was intentionally hard and bright to provide more projection.

The few kits, all 22" kicks if I recall, were loud and bright. I am wondering if the smaller kick is similarly louder, brighter? (sounding like a laundry detergent here, but I hope you get my drift)

I'll let you know Patrick. It may be a while as there's a bit of work to do along with the small matter of a front hoop etc.

You are right Blairndrums, the 13" doesn't match colour wise, although I'm fairly confident it came with the kit originally. I will use it with the 12" only. Thats the set up I use anyway.

Cheers

A Hayman set is on C/L/ for 400.00 but it's been re-worked and re-lug with the wrong lug's...Mikey

Wow, there doesn't seem to be much left of the original Hayman parts left in that kit Mikey. I understand they were manufactured again in the 80's for a while in Taiwan with standard style lugs etc but this one looks to have the old badges and BD spurs.

They are making new Hayman kits now as well with the original style dome lugs.

Fayray, Yes you are right the only things that are original on the set are the bass drum spurs and mount's the badge's are round silver one's too..But the lugs look like new copys of Slingerland lugs...To bad they did this to this vintage set....Mikey

Its a good job you live the other side o the world, Cos i'd burgle you 4 it lol, T-Cut on the covering, only heavy rubbing where the dirt and scratches get around where the head rim makes contact with the drum, then Mr Sheen or another good quality polish, ( not water based window cleaner ) this can penetrate, and lift the wrap!!!!!! on the chrome work, Brasso, and only rub hard where the pitting is heavy, Hayman drum chrome is very robust, and if it is only surface penetration, will come off quiet easy, and with deeper penetrating pitting, quiet prolonged rubbing (as long as your fingers will stand it) will result in medium satisfaction) Hell I know, and when you've done 2 hours rubbing chrome, Don't try and play, cos your hands tell you, ( WE NEED A REST ) lol, Happy Drumming.......... Thanks RJ. I've started work on the snare drum. The chrome is good on some lugs and average on others and the chrome on the muffler levers on all drums is stuffed - a bit of a mixed bag. I'll get it looking as good as possible without (hopefully) resorting to rechroming.

While the wrap is a sort of foil, it does have a plastic covering so I wondered whether Novus plastic polish would work? It's what I use on standard plastic wraps.

Cheers
