That looks pretty cool, but I dont like the wood rims. Have you ever busted a knuckle doing a rim shot?? Looks like the rim is much too high from the head to me... Food for thought though...

I had the same thought about the busted knuckle. I I haven't quite seen a drum like this before :it's kind of like a funny car, quirky looking and hard to operate.

I busted a knuckle once. The lead guitar had taken off and we were jammin our asses off. I was popping them rim shots and have a hell of a time. It split open and bled like a stuck hog!! I was done for that night, but there were plenty of drummers there that night. I have never done that again.

Here is a PREMIER kit I just picked up on eBAy. Looks like a home spun rewrap job in black vinyl. Is this close to the same as ludwig black panther? Bought these as a practice set and now I'm really liking this black vinyl look. What they did was wrap right over the existing electric blue and left the hoops alone. I bought some sample material at the upholstery shop and now working on a small set of concert toms so I will post those in a couple days. Here are pics of finish & vinyl upholstery sample for more wraps.

Might need some pointers on matching up tO the wrap on the Premiers. The saMple (pic4) is fAbric from upholstery shop, but the wrap on the tubs is apparently a self-adhesive black vinyl. Looks darn close to Black Panther which is why it caught my eye. NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD BY MORE BLACK DRUMS, BUT HEY, WENT WITH WHAT I LIKED. oDDLY ENOUGH, THE GUY AT THE SHOP recommended that the vinyl be sewn into a tube shape and shimmied on to shell. Go figure!Jump For Joy

Did you take a drum with you to the upholstery shop??

As best I can tell yours look a lot like a vinyl called madrid grain. madrid was used by General Motors from the mid 60's till the late 70's. Then GM used sierra grain till the 90's. As a rule of thumb in the upholster business, "Color is more important than the grain" Black is the easiest color to match, but there are so many different grains, sheens, and stretch on all vinyls. Most vinyls strecth from side to side accross the roll. If you cut your piece going up the roll there wont be much stretch.

Take your drum outside and take some more pics without the flash. get as good of a close up shot as you can and let me see it again. Try to eliminate the glare on the pic. Ill try to figure out excatly what grain matchs the best. Take the highest resolution your camera has and email me the pic. Then I can enlarge it and see the grain better.
