You'll have to wait for the real experts to tell you the exact date and manufacturer, but from what I've learnt at this page, you got either Pearl or Star (later Tama) stencil drums from sixties.

I'm not sure. The BD T-rods look pretty interesting. But it's the wall paper that caught my eye - Very nice - and the drums look great too.

Stedi, that's a very cool set you've got. It looks all original and very well maintained (or restored.) The WMP wrap looks great!

The name 'Clear Sound' was just one of many, many names used by the Japanese drum manufacturers. That's why we call them 'stencil' sets.

As to the maker of the set, we are still sort of debating it. See the thread below. I'm pretty sure the maker is the same. Has the same Gretsch copy lugs and the same mounting hardware on the rack toms.

At this time, I'm of the mind that they are made by Pearl, but some of us on the forum are still researching the very early Japanese made drums to try to figure out if there were other manufacturers or not. Interestingly, the badges on your set look like some of the badges Star was using (see the 'Audition' badge in the drum identification section of the site) but these drums dont display any other characteristics of Star drums.

The bass drum t-rods are a not often seen Trixon copy design.

As for the production date of your drums, I'd say that is was most likely sometime between 1961-1966. That's really about as far as you can narrow the down the time frame to.

I must say that the kit is no longer mine. I'm currently restoring a 1966 Ludwig and unfortunately it had to go. (read: "needed the cash")

The kit was not restored and came like this from 1st owner, wrap in excellent condition.

The man I bought it from was 78 year old and his reason for selling it to me was that all his buddy's from the orchestra had died. He toured this kit for years doing weddings and afternoon- dances. He described to me how he used to loaded the kit into a trolley, attach it to his bicycle and drive it from town to town. Myself I am Belgium, the seller was Dutch and lives in south Holland.

Anyway,... a great story I thought.

Attached some more pictures. As you will notice, the snare is a copy of a Supraphonic. The whole kit was in very nice condition except the snare. The picture shows how I bought it. Once cleaned up it was nice and shiny but sound-wise it was surely not a Ludwig,...

Yes cn679 is right about the lugs that they are Gretsch copy's.Now on to the set i think it's a Pearl made set by the tom rail mount i have seen this mount on many set's that Pearl made in the Late 60's to the first part of the 70's,Star did not have a mount like this that i know of.Also with the copy's of the Trixon bass drum T-rods i have only seen these on stencel set's made by Pearl and not on set's made by Star also the claws on the bass drum are copys of 60s Slingerland claw's the leg mount's on the bass drum also look to be the copy's of Slingerland mount's with inserts eyelet's this was done by Pearl made drum's in the late 60's...So with all this said to me it's a pearl made stencel set dating from late 60's to the first part of the 70's....Mikey

I owned an identical set. The badge was PRO. The shells and lugs were a mix of Star parts from their 1966 and 1967 catalogs. The base pedal was also Star, from their 1966 catalog. The bass tuning rods were a knock off of ones made by Trixon, or may have been purchased from Trixon, who was selling off assets at that time.

Another player in Japan in the late 1960s was Tiesco (later bought by Kawai), who subcontracted their drum manufacture to fill in their catalogs. They didn't manufacture their own. My set is an exact match to the picture, as well as the sets in the Tiesco catalog.

The badges are foil stickers rather tin or brass

so I think they are late 60's early 70's at very oldest

The Gretsch cloned lugs are similar to those found on Del Ray, Rocket, and Norma badged kits but are not identical to them, rather a newer re-design of the older Gretsch clones

I have an orange sparkle 6 lug bass drum with the same lugs

The white marine pearl wrap does look like the pattern used on many Pearl stencils

But still my guess is the drums are early 70's and made by Hoshino K

I love that supra copy snare drum and have never seen one like that until now

The Marine Pearl was also offered by Star in 1967.
