hi to all as im a restorer for old decorative finishes we do this all the time we (i mean a select few in my field ) ive found out from discovery as we call it by opening windows into the past the newer finishes will come off easy as i put ithe stripper on as it activate almost instantly then you can actually remove 1 layer at a time but the stuff on the market in strippers that are available (i do guest speaking on historic restoration on decorative finishes and wood restoration)is geared toward the home owner lady and do it yourself there are a lot of removers that are environmentally friendly i found that the lesser strength ones are great for final cleaning on most surface as also when we get down to the original finishes we will stop with the strippers and start using cleaners of different strengths from acetone to to tsp etc strong to mild diluting even simply green amazing stuff now the tricky stuff lacquer finishes can only be removed with lacquer thinner if the glass clear coat on the drum rap is a lacquer base stay away from it it will melt it which i wondering if it is as in italy they us a polyester base which melts with lacquer thinner if its plastic of some kind same problem always test a small area during final clean up and u mite be surprised at the results good luck

some real good strippers in different strengths they have many,a co called back to nature i like the ultra srtip i coat and bag it with plastic overnite spritz with water (water cleanup)and int real works good...hope this helps a little

Well hell!! The stripper has been on there for almost 2 hrs and the paint is barley getting soft. This must be some industrial strength paint on this.

I know the feeling. I swear, I think I have a bad batch....

I went back to using Citrus Strip.

I left the stripper on for several hours and the paint wasnt desolving much at all, so I ended up trashing the old piece of wrap. its a japanese drum and probably not worth rewrapping. I found a percussion plus green 22" for $20. I think ill just go that route on my Statue pedestal.

i feel for u the finish is the problem like i said before if its lacquer base the know strippers hardly effect it and citrus strip is one of the milds out there i uses it for a final rinse try putting stripper on in one direction only and than lay a lite plastic over make sure no air gets to it let it sit over nite u mite be pleasantly surprised

I've used the 3M safe stripper twice with good results. Once was on a metal drum, and once was on a wooden shell (see below) and both came out nicely.Your comment about leaving the product on for only a brief time held true for me also. I applied it over an enameled badge assuming I would remove both the excess paint as well as the original, but it took off the unwanted layer and left the badge as it should be! (Again, below.) Amazing! For taking off thick coats of paint or multiple layers, I let the stripping agent soak in over night and the paint peeled right off with a putty knife. This was my experience anyhow. -Lee

What a cool drum!
