Its comming right along. I started applying about 8" section all the way down the shell and letting it set for 15 minutes. The 1st few scrapes werent very good, but every scrape got better. finally I was scraping good smooth 1" strips down the shell, but I have to deal with the streaks I didnt get at 1st. The stripper did not harm the finish. It softened it slightly, but after i wipe the stripper off with a wet rag and let it dry it hardened back up. I discovered if I rub hard enough Xylene will take the remaining paint off with out harming the finish. We use a Xylene based solvent at my shop to glean glue off of cars without harming the paint, but this paint has been softened by the stripper.

There is an easier way to do this...I'll ask the guy who did it for me. He was a high school student and enjoys restoring vintage drums for some cash.

He didn't polish it for me as I felt I could do that. But, here it is with only a couple of the scratches filled with black paint.

It wasnt very hard, just apply the 3m safest stripper, wait 15 minutes, scrape it off. about 6" strip at a time, with a plastic scraper. If I had it to do over it would much easier.

I got almost all of the black paint off of the tom. I have a good friend, and fellow drummer that is the head painter at a dealership body shop. i am going to take it to him and have him buff the rest of the paint off and polish it.

It turned out surprisingly well. The white has yellowed quite a bit though.

I went to lowes this morning and got some Crown lacquer thinner. I tested it on a spot on the shell where the leg bracket covers, and it didnt hurt the finish at all. I commenced to clean every tiny bit of black off with the lacguer thinner. It looks fabulous now! Here's pics of all four sides of my WMP FT

I had planned of wraping this to finish off a BDP kit I recently aquired, but now I dont want to wrap over this, although it is just one year different than the BDP kit I have. I am looking for another floor tom now lol

This was a fun experiment. The 3M safest stripper didnt have harsh fumes, but the laquer thinner I used has very harmful vapors. it is bes to use it in a well ventilated area or even do it outside. Like I mentioned before. I tried Citrustrip safer stripping gel under a lug, and it soften the wrap considerably. I also tried Goof off 2 and it didnt do anything to the black paint. The 3M really works!

Ok here goes again. I got this 20" floor tom that is originally blue pearl and has been painted red. I want to strup the red paint off of this drum and make a statue stand out of it. I removed all the hardware and the wrap just completly fell off. I am going to lay it flat and strip it and see how it looks.
