Good Crash/Ride cymbal???

Loading...

I have finally got together with a group playing traditional country/rockabilly stuff. My kit is just a bass and snare. But I need a good crash/ride though.

Any thoughts what I should check out? It seems most of the crash/ride cymbals sound to much like a gong or somethin'. At least the cheaper ones. I don't really need a bright crash though.

Would I be better off with maybe a medium crash cymbal?

Would love your thoughts...

If money isn't a problem, I don't think you'd go far wrong with a k series zildjian. Or you could always look at the wuhan range. They might suit what you're looking for.

I've heard good things about a line of cymbals called "Dream" brand. I know they are inexpensive hand hammered cymbals. I would think anything in the 18"-20" range should work.

This is a bit futile, as you really need to just shop and test to find your cymbal of choice. The Paiste Twenty series Light Rides are great for this ... as are the simple Crash-Ride denoted cymbals ... as are the Byzance Jazz Rides ... as are the El Sabor Rides ... etc etc etc.

A Ping Ride is a long trip from a Crash-Ride. The OP is searching for something a LOT lighter than that.

I play in a rockabilly band and picked up a repaired A Zildjian Custom projection 20 inch ride and it crashes great. It's on the thin side. The projection ride may be a little too loud for trad country but look into a A Custom series.Try them at a music store and then search E bay. There are a few sellers who sell repaired cymbals that sound as good as new.
