Good Crash/Ride cymbal???

Loading...

For a crash/ride you really need to think in the medium-thin range, rather than the medium range. The following are good crash/rides to my ears: Dream Vintage Bliss, the reissue Paiste Giant Beats, Zildjian K Custom Dark series (these are what I'm currently using), and if they are anything like the originals (and if money is no object) the reissue Paiste Formula 602s that just came out would be a nice choice too.

Best to use your ears and play LOTS of them in the stores. Also bring your current cymbals with you and see what fits best with them too. Nothing like a good sounding cymbal on its own that DOESN'T fit with your current cymbals.....DOH....it takes time and a good ear, so be patient. Also, don't do the mail-order box store way, as you never know what you're getting. Cymbals have their own voice and no two sound exactly the same, and internet sound files can only give you a guide to what it sounds like, too many variables like type of mic used, type of sticks used, how its played, recording compression, etc.

Basically, you need to go to a store and see what you like best. :D
