It constantly changes...and I don't really have a "list" of favorites because that would make me feel obligated to that list...and I'm always changing my mind about what I want to hear...BUT...

I have always loved Buddy Rich. He was probably the first drummer who I was aware of because it was always a big deal in my house when he was guest star on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson or one of the other contemporary talk shows.

When I was a little older, my tastes were let's say....um...stupid...so I won't go into those names! lol! However, having said that, I was always a Led Zeppelin fan and loved that big fat powerful Bonham sound. It kinda defined the sound of that era, in my opinion. A bit beyond that, Carl Palmer...then a little later, Alex Van Halen (mainly because of VH's first album)

When I started to really understand what could be done with a drum set, I was listening to a lot of jazz fusion (I hate that term!) bands. And of those bands, a few drummers stood out for me...

Billy Cobham

Steve Gadd

Peter Erskine

And lately, I've been listening to all kind of drummers...

Jon Falt, Jon Christensen, Eric Harland, Dafnis Prieto, "El Negro", Keith Carlock.....TONS of players! I can't even name them all.

Well to me 10 is a pretty small number, it's allready all been mentioned, my list probably won't stay the same only for a few days. My current list, and who I listen to these days: (in no specific order)

Levon Helm

Carl Palmer

Buddy Rich

Ed Shaugnessy

Max Roach

Micheal Giles

Keith Moon

Ginger Baker

John Bonham

Bill Ward

Also if I could go over ten there'd be Ringo, Steve Gadd, Jim Keltner, Niko McBrain, Bernard Purdie, Neil Peart, Carmine Appice, Vinny Appice, David Jones and many many many more!

I get that people associate "favorite drummer" with a "favorite band". But, how does Charlie Watts appear on any list od top ten drummers? Other than playing slag beats with a very popular group, what has he done to impact the art of drumming? He admits he's only a mediocre rock and jazz drummer.

This kind of stuff just doesn't compute to me.
