I get that people associate "favorite drummer" with a "favorite band". But, how does Charlie Watts appear on any list od top ten drummers? Other than playing slag beats with a very popular group, what has he done to impact the art of drumming? He admits he's only a mediocre rock and jazz drummer. This kind of stuff just doesn't compute to me.
For the same reason you do not see Ginger Bakers name at the top of each list yes many other drummers were better maybe at certain styles but anyone who has researched Bakers life knows he is from a Jazz backround , but he plays blues ,rock, fusion, and African rythyms so complex most of us would just sit and scratch our heads..... so a one trick pony he is not but a very talented Drummer and the very best I have ever seen....
