I agree with some, it's hard to beat a nice wood finish like a mahogany or walnut.

but for a satin or flame I dig these.

From drumhack

My favorite is Red Tiger Pearl because that is the color of my current, and only, kit I inherited from my old man. I also think that Yellow Tiger Pearl is awesome looking too. My least favorite is probably that white marine pearl. The yellowing it seems to be prediposed to acquiring looks just old and worn out and nasty to me. I believe people started warming up to it and creating nice terms like "mellowing" because it is a very, very common style of wrap and to hate it would exclude a great number of vintage drum opportunities. So, just like ugly patina on cymbals, drummers have pulled the Tony Robbins move from Shallow Hal and tricked everyone into thinking aged-yellowed drums, that used to be white, are gorgeous!! I don't fall for those Jedi mind tricks though. The force is strong with this one!!Storm Troopertoodlesdrumhack Mind Blowiband2:DKeep on Pl

Awe man, I love my "Mellow Yellowed" kit. It's not about old and in the way, but more of a sweet tea that just gets sweeter with more sugar. And I do like your green banana kit...oh, sorry, that was red tiger...:D

Good to see you again~

Blue Ripple Pearl, Capri Pearl, and Oyster Pink are my favs, I'm also partial to most sparkles. Butcher block is probably my least favorite, and I've never really been a fan of any of the agate/onyx wraps.

Favs

Wood finishes

WMP (faded and not)

Loves them sparkles (Pink, champagne, gold, silver, red and even green; blue looks cheap, to me)

Some of the old Ducos

Not Favs

Butcher Block

Oyster Pearl (or whatever it's called)

Any Satin Flame (dizzying)

Any Cortex

I'm sure I'm leaving some out on both sides. Interesting, never really considered writing stuff like this down.

Very interesting how some people's fave finishes are other people's least favourites - and vice versa.

My faves: most pearls and sparkles - especially light blue/sky blue pearl, silver sparkle, nothing looks classier than a pristine white marine pearl.

My least faves: ducos, oysters (so no chance of me paying an arm and a leg for a Ringo kit), agates, onyx and solid colour finishes. I don't dislike wood finishes but they don't excite me much. Nothing looks worse than a badly-yellowed white marine pearl ... well, okay, there may a few.
