Favorite and Least Favorite Finishes

Loading...

So what are your favorite and least favorite finishes? And any special reason why?

My favorites are BDP and Pink Sparkle

BDP to me is just so classy yet still very dark and cool.

Pink Sparkle I know its not the original intention but to me it just looks very "punk rock"

Least favorite

Blue Satin flame I just think it looks chintzy

My favorite is Red Tiger Pearl because that is the color of my current, and only, kit I inherited from my old man. I also think that Yellow Tiger Pearl is awesome looking too.

My least favorite is probably that white marine pearl. The yellowing it seems to be prediposed to acquiring looks just old and worn out and nasty to me. I believe people started warming up to it and creating nice terms like "mellowing" because it is a very, very common style of wrap and to hate it would exclude a great number of vintage drum opportunities. So, just like ugly patina on cymbals, drummers have pulled the Tony Robbins move from Shallow Hal and tricked everyone into thinking aged-yellowed drums, that used to be white, are gorgeous!! I don't fall for those Jedi mind tricks though. The force is strong with this one!!Storm Trooper

I like natural wood in a dark brownish red. I don't like silver sparkle or WMP. I also do not like fades like on newer drums. In sparkles, I like gold, green and turquoise.

Well, I like my Gold Sparkle kit (I must, I've had it 48 years). However, Gold Sparkle can look pretty pitiful if it's faded badly...fortunately mine has not. I also think that Silver Sparkle is very attractive. I think that Blue Vistalites are gorgeous and, sorry Drumhack, I think that an evenly "mellowed" WMP is beautiful...looks like vanilla ice cream.

Oh, my least favorite is Champagne Sparkle...boring.

I like most of the vintage sparkles and pearls, with a few exceptions. Burgundy sparkle looks dull to me. I really like Mardi Gras kits, though I'll probably never own one.

WOOD!

I love the natural look and vibe of a simple Maple, Mahogany, Oak, Teak, Cherry, Bubinga, etc kit. They just look so right. They age fairly well with a honeying and finish spidering. Stunning.

I'm not all that crazy about the Oyster Black, Sky Blue, Blue Swirl, Steel Ripples, etc. They are nothing more than variations on gray. They bore my eyes.
