Green Cymbals.

Just for the record ... there is a significant difference in patina and "green corrosion".

Patina is beautiful and like gray hairs and wisdom earned with age, highly prized.

The "green corrosion" is actually damage to the cymbal that will continue unabated unless you take corrective action. Please make sure we are speaking the same language.

Yes sorry for the insult, this is the right

place. It looks like they are Avedis

Zildjian. They sound good but the 16"

looks horrible.

My kit is super the cymbals are not.

Anybody want to swap for Paiste??

Here's a 60s stamp.

Thanks for the photo. That's the same stamp.

I was offered $50 for my 20" Avedis Zildjian which is in good condition.

Whats a reasonable price I can expect for the cymbal?

It's the 16" Avedis that looks sad.

I am impressed with the knowledge thats out there.

You seem quite new to the idiosyncrasies of vintage Zildjian cymbals. Really, no one can give you an accurate appraisal without at least seeing good photos. Though the 60's stamp posted may look like yours, there may be significant small details you are not seeing in comparison to other similar stamps that could mean the difference between a $50 cymbal and a $400-600 cymbal.

You want the real story, post pictures... no way around it.

Thank you I will get at it, yes you are right I was unaware of the variations out there and what's involved in restoring. Initially can you PM me with an email address so I can send a photo. I have always played Paiste and if the Avedis are worth anything I will try to trade or sell them.

Thank you.

Better to post you pics here on the thread. Drumaholic is your best expert resource for Zildjian stamp ID.

I like shiny cymbals........I honestly believe that some guy decided that he had way too many cymbals to keep clean and ingeniously invented the "patina is good" mantra that seems to be the accepted theory now. I never understood how patina is a good thing. It is the exact same end result as rust, except the reaction is happening to a non ferrous material. Given this logic of leaving patina on cymbals, rusty hardware should also be allowed to remain rusty but it appears there are many, many threads on how to make rusted hardware shiny again!! Hypocrisy at it's finest!....LOL

toodles
