Green Cymbals.

Loading...

My vintage 1967 Zildgian cymbals were stored badly for many years, prior to me buying them. They have watermarks,a "greenish" colour, and they have tape residue on them, probably to deaden the tone.

Is there any safe way to restore them?

The green is patina (oxydation) . Use a Bronze/Copper cleaner from the hardware store with lots of rags. The cleaner will appear black when useing it but the more you wipe the better it will clean-up. Do not use clear cleaners like Tarnex,..you wont be fast enough to clean it off before it stains the metal. I use ...Brasso... cuz it`s a paste and gives time to wipe off, don`t leave any cleaners on the metal for a length of time, and don`t do it in sections. Do the bottom all at once and then the top, you will need alot of polishing time and change rags often.

Then post the pics. cuz we like to see things !!

Many here will not like you cleanning them off cuz it takes away the charactature of the vintage !! In just a short time they will fade into a nice Bronze color again.

Many thanks, and another question. What would a fair price be for A 1967

Club Date bass drum BDP, in good condition no holes etc. I am hoping to upgrade the bass drum to a Classic. I have a mismatched kit (ordered that way from Ludwig)

Thanks again.

I got clients with all kinds of vintage and new cymbals . some of them got prized cymbals with real nice old patina and wishes to keep them that way. we understand and recomend! that. but not all vintage cymbals have a nice old patina some just look shot and sound bad due to horrible neglect. instead of leaving them like that people come to me to and ask to make theire cymbals shinny and sounding new agin

The Kit is dated 1967, so I assume the cymbals were about the same.

Whats the best site to go to to identify what they are? Nowhere on the cymbals

does it say "A"

When I figure it out I will post pictures.

I appreciate all of the responses.
