The Rogers Project

Loading...

I got offered this Rogers script badge kit to try out, if I like it I'm not sure what to offer. The 14x22 is mostly all original, but the red glass glitter finish has a few scatches, the 9x13 is missing the badge and also has some scratches, the 16x16 is a black wrap that will need to be recovered, it's missing the badge, but the tag inside says Holiday. The 22 and 13 are missing the tags, all have grey interiors. Any thoughts what a fair price might be would be appreciated, thanks.x-mas3

A fair price would start by looking at what you can get a whole vintage kit for with no major issues: I would say about 700 dollors.

Now the only way your going to be happy is rewrapping the entire kit.

so that will be around 250 (not counting your labor).

700 - 250 = 450

Finally since the rewrapping devalues the set by about 40%

700 - 250 - 280 = 170

I would explain this to the seller and offer him 250!

Clearly just parting them out has more value.

I paid $350 for these. Had to rewrap the floor tom. Unoriginal tom mount. Absolutely great sounding set, possibly the best sounding kit I've ever owned. My regular gigging kit. A real workhorse. Is it a perfect collectable? No. Does it look good on stage and sound great? Yes! It's a tool, that does the job very well. Done gigs from bars to major music festivals. About the price a a very low level beginner's set. I'd go about that for the set you're looking at. It'll get you some of the best drums ever made in the US....

From newschool

Now the only way your going to be happy is rewrapping the entire kit.

NS...did you check if the baby survived the throwing out of the bathwater ?

The Rack and Bass have matching wrap. They are scratched and scuffed a bit but not torn or bubbled, I am assuming.

The Floor Tom (the drum least visible) is non-matching.

You leave the Bass and Rack. Get some Goo-Gone and a rag and clean off the shmutz....then polish up with some car vinyl spray cleaner, and they should show pretty nicely.

....and you have the floor tom rewrapped in Red Glitter. If you wanna get a hella close match, you can even do a custom color order from Drummaker.com (which takes 6 weeks to produce, at least). But if a standard swatch of red glitter is close enough, just do that.

Pick up a badge on eFlay for around $15-20.

I don't really disagree with NS's offer amount, give or take.

But if all hardware is included (swivo arms, swivo legs, swivo tom brackets, original internal mufflers - I am lookin' at the bracket plates in your pics, and I see the tom mount ones don't have their collets (thumbscrews) - hopefully, they are included)...then I think $300 is a fairer offer...$250 is lowballing it a bit....

BTW....how can rewrapping 'devalue' a set which was never a 'set' to begin with ???

The FT is unmatched, likely not even quite the same era....you cannot argue that the 'set' is worth 'more' as red-red-black than as red-red-red. So the devaluation argument is not really valid.

Here's a couple better shots of the two drums, I'm going to offer him $350 for the 13,16,22 and a Pearl sensitone snare. The 16 is going to cost $150 to recover, so that puts me at $500. Does this sound like a good deal to you Rogers fanatics? x-mas3

I hate to tell you this but they look worn out to me.

Okay they can make a great players kit as is or after wrapping

the FT. After you wrap it you'll really notice the wornout

wrap on the B and TT. When it's all said and done I think

you'll be wrapping those in the end. If the FT is 150 then to

do the other two will be 250 more (wow that rewapping is expensive

stuff!). I just believe if you buy a kit ready to go, which you

can find on ebay and craigslist left and right, it's easier. You

know what your getting and you don't have to do the work.

What if this is your first time and somehow you make a mistake?

How much can that snare be worth? 50? Now if your desiring to

join the crowd and salvage drums then I'd say go for it. If you

want a vintage set you can be proud to play, then pay now and

know what your getting.

Please don't take my comments to critical, for I am no expert at

this stuff. Take care Ringo!

Yes, I thought about that, but I figured a Rogers kit with most of the original parts that's a little beat up would be better than buying a new kit for $500. I mean the wrap is tight on both drums, but there are some scuffs. The only original hardware that is missing are 6 t-rods for the kick, the front has all the bow tie ones and the batter side has only four, with the remainder being the later Rogers t-rods. There are no extra holes and it has the swivel-matic tom arm.

Does anyone know a good way to make the original wrap look nicer? Thanks.x-mas3

have you looked at the completed listings for rogers drums.

I've seen many 3 piece shell packs in great condition go for

700 to 800.

if you browse thru the for sale items all you see primarily are people fishing

for someone to come along and give them 1200 or more.

but if anybody wants to sell them they only get the 700 range.

my whole point is that when you finally get these where you

want them you'll have spent that amount and had to fuss with

them for weeks (months?). Just to replace the rods you want will

be a hundred dollars and you can seach for months. Soon you'll be

frustrated. There is no easy way to get where you want to be without

paying because that's what they are worth.

Just playing devil's advocate you know!

By the looks of the bow tie's on the bass drum i would guess they are Cleveland drums and these are the best of the best.. rewrap them or don't who gives a rats A$$ they will sound like a million dollars and you will love them and they will always be worth 500.00 at the least either way so go get em and play the heck out of them...

OK, so I bought the 13,16,22 and a Pearl sensitone snare for $300, the 16 will cost $150 to rewrap. I traded in an old Gibralter double pedal for $65, so I'll be only paying $85 out of pocket for the rewrap. After I get the 13 an 22 polished up, this will be one nice vintage Rogers kit.x-mas3
