Gretsch Round Badge

Not sure about its worth. According to the 1983 Gretsch catalog, your model 4420 sticker should be on a 10x14 conventional tom (I don't think they changed mod numbers too often, if at all). A Gretsch model 4417 would be a 14x14 FT.

Mmm. nice in any regard.

Say, waddaya want for that 16x24 wicker floor tom shell, assuming the edges are okay? MIJ, I'm guessing.

Where did you find that?

So, it looks like maybe someone put that tag on there from another tom.... rats.... foiled again. Whatever it is, the tom sounds great, lots of resonance and sustain. x-mas3

There are a few archived catalogs on the Gretsch Drum site, under History, Vintage catalogs. Does the tag look fooled with? At any rate, as long as it sounds good and looks good with the kit, who cares. Enjoy it.

Well, you saw the pics., it looks like it has been on the drum for awhile. I know those tags are hard to remove from one drum and put on another without damaging them.

Have you ever heard of this? If so, how do they do it without damaging the tag?x-mas3

I wouldn't know how to remove the tags without damaging them; I'd be afraid to. I suppose with some ingenuity and patience, it can be done.

Anyway, it'd be interesting to truly identify your drum. I was just looking back at the one pic of your bearing edge and it looks very different from my early 70's model 4420W; yours is like thicker and almost flat-ish looking ( maybe the wrap and the angle of the pic?). Mine is more of a rounded bearing edge. Anything else inside that can offer up some more clues?

Dude, it looks like a corner of the tag is pulled away. A giant seam and what looks like a cross-cutt on the BE? That's not any Gretsch drum shell I've ever seen. Again, if it sounds and looks good in person, enjoy. It's only $350 OP and at least the BD is real(?).

Now go hit them!

Well, they may have been re-cut, but I'm thinking it's a keller shell that someone painted grey and stuck a Gretsch tag in there.

BTW, the 12 and 22 are both vintage Grestch drums, but the 22 is the only true round badge.x-mas3

There is a profusion of Keller shells for a reason - they sound good! It doesn't matter if that 14 is a Keller. It looks great next to those other two drums and it sounds sweet. Nice grab. Finally got your WMP. Good for you.
