Metal ASBA kit (w sound)

Greetings fellow members. I don't post much here but sure read a lot! Anyway, I got this kit a while ago, it's a metal ASBA kit, and I made a little soundfile of it yesterday with my Zoom H4. Recorded from the drummer's perspective, with the H4 next to my ear. Excuse the not-so-great playing in this clip, I'm only an amateur.

Sizes are 22x14, 12x8, 13x9, 16x16. Apart from the bottom head on the 16", all heads are original. The snare is a 14x5,5" Gretsch Renown Maple.

Curious to hear your opinions on the sound as I'm sort of on the fence about whether or not to sell this kit!

The drums sound very good.

Are the metal shells painted or do they have a wrap covering?

Playing was smooth and good meter,cool looking and sounding kit,a lot warmer and dryer sounding than I would have thought,possibly aluminum construction?would love to see more detailed pics of the interiors/seams/ bearing edges if you ever take the heads off,don't know what you paid,but new metal kits are real pricey these days I think the cheapest is a Trick,about 3000.00 plus for a 4 pc.Drum head choice is so varied now,would be interesting to see what other heads would sound like on it.Welcome to the forum and thanks for posting that.

When they sound that good, I have a tendency to keep em. Metal kit eh? Aluminum? Steel? A shot of an interior would be great. I'd like to see how they formed the bearing edges and whether the shells are seamed or spun.

From what I know, all metal kits from Asba were made of steel except for very few (10 or so) cooper kits.

The steel shell I have was made from a steel foil, rolled and spot welded at the seam. But I'm not sure it was the only technique.

For snares, it's a different story: COS or COB, seamless shells.

Steel, yes. Very heavy. And the bearing edges consisting of a U-formed plastic piece put over the un-folded steel. Just like the things mounted on new handsaws to protect the buyers from their teeth.

Very simple, very french.

Nice drums - sound good. I say keep em too unless you're desperate to sell.

I used an ASBA pedal with my first Gretsch kit 69-76....loved the pedal - it was high-end back in the day and fit my large kippers just perfect. I've never seen or hear a kit. They sound good...tuned well and your demo is played well. Thanks for sharing.

Heck, those sound sweet! I'd say keep them also, but I realize that collecting drums isn't like collecting coins... they take up a bit more real estate.
