I know this set is roughly from the 70s era due to the black metal rectangle badge and the hexagonal tom mounts. Other than that even after looking at the catalogs I can't seem to figure out which model they are and what the shells are made of. Attached are some pictures of the set and hardware (the 12" and 13" toms I have already stripped hardware and wrap to begin restoration)

I like that one. If I ever restore a MIJ kit it will be a Pearl. Some guys on the Pearl Forum might be able to give you more information too.

I'm with Mo Tonkie on this. Over at the Pearl forum, there is a specific thread in which you can direct your question to the good people at Pearl. I'm sure they have the information you seek and then some.

If you dig into some Pearl catalogs (several on this site....in Vintage Drum Guide), you will likely be able to figure it out. My guess is somewhere between 75-79.....sure at or later than 75, the 79 is a shot in the dark.
Interesting that the inside ply does not appear to be Luan. ?? Cool kit......clean them up, re-head & tune....should sound great. Use Dawn/Water (24-48 hr soak, then brush with toothbrush, then polish using micro-fibre cloyh and TurtleWax "Rust Remover and Chrome Polisher"...green bottle about $3) for the snare and chrome.....NO steel wool. Snare will sound great with standard Remo Amb.

Thanks! A guy had them on Craigslist and they were outside under a tarp. Got them for $75 and I like projects so I'm gonna keep this one for myself. Came with the original cymbal stands, hihat and kick pedal as well. The inside ply has me confused. It looks like it has a thing layer/coating on it? The outer ply I believe is mahogany.

These aren't the best pics, but they do show its old personality. Like you I only have a vague idea of the vintage, but all the hardware is identical to yours. I would hazard a guess and say 1977-79? If it's anything like mine I think you'll find it's a very nice kit to play, so have fun cleaning it up. Definitely worth it! |

Here's one from this era for sale here at the moment. Looks like a total time capsule |
