not a fan of this band - Sounds to me like the same song over & over.

But the pop comment was not a crack - The Who were a pop band as were the Beatles and Buddy Holly & The Crickets and many more of the all time greats...POP - it's not a dirty word.

Your definition of pop and most of the worlds is sure different than your definition of pop, the Who, and The Beatles a pop band and Buddy Holly, Yeah right! !

Pete Townshend coined the word "Power Pop" to descibe the Who. What charts do you think all these hits were on? Pop is a form, much like haiku - I would have expected most musicians to understand that.

Perhaps, You should send Pete that crippled icon and tell him how much you know.

TOTP - Top Of The Pops

This BBC show started life in 64. It focused on the top POP songs of the day.

First show featured:
The Rolling Stones
The Beatles
The Dave Clark Five
The Hollies
Dusty Springfield
and others

The point here is POP music is just that ... what is popular of the day that pushes the creative and technological envelope. Rock and Roll, Classical, Jazz, whatever.

Well it's awful funny when the WHO among the other Three you mentioned where Inducted Into the Rock N roll hall of fame you may want to see which Category they are placed in, that's what I know!!! Hey I was just listening to Tommy the pop opera, the who with song titles like long live pop etc?????????? Definitions
Hatch and Millward define pop music as "a body of music which is distinguishable from popular, jazz and folk musics".[1] Although pop music is often seen as oriented towards the singles charts, as a genre it is not the sum of all chart music, which has always contained songs from a variety of sources, including classical, jazz, rock, and novelty songs, while pop music as a genre is usually seen as existing and developing separately.[2] Thus "pop music" may be used to describe a distinct genre, aimed at a youth market, often characterized as a softer alternative to rock and roll.[3]

[edit] Origin of the term
