Zildjian K question

Loading...

I just picked up a 20 " K Jazz Ride in almost brand new condition. I can't find any info as to when Zildjian manufactured this cymbal. The only thing I know is that the stamp is before they started laser etching em with serial numbers. The pie looks like someone bought it new and never played it. Wanna get some 411 on it from y'all before I try to get rid of it.

From blairndrums

K on the top AND bottom?

Zildjian ink stamp on bottom. BTW the embedded stamp is so faint it nothing short of using a magnifying glass to see it. I'll post a pic as soon as I learn how to here.

About pics: http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=1713

Pics do seem to be troublesome until you hit on a method which works for you.

K ink on top and Zildjian ink on bottom = post 1984 (ish) (source=Drumaholic)

Laser stamps didn't start until 1994 (ish) (source=Zildjian)

I always add ish to years because who knows if something changed exactly at December 31st. The evidence can come from ads in magazines, price lists, catalogs, purchase receipts, and least reliable (in my view) personal recollection.

If you look here http://robscott.net/cymbals/k-canada/

You will see the sort of uncertainly and differences of opinion which arise in the context of precise dates. Scroll down into the (unvetted) comments section.
