Zilco Sizzle

Loading...

I have this 15" Zilco, by AZCO Canada cymbal with lots of rivets that look factory. It's in really good shape and I love the sound!

Can't find a comp, so what is something like this worth? Probably from the early 60's I would guess.

For starters you might start by looking at sold auctions on ePrey for Avedis Zildjians in that size, ignoring the fact that it is an AZCO. And for sold auctions of 15" hi hat pairs, just divide by 2. You don't exactly price Avedis Zildjians by the inch, but it is a good first approximation.

A picture of the whole cymbal and of the stamp would help. That's usually the minimum requirement to get something going around here.

Thanks. I really was more interested in the history, model, etc. It's a cool sounding cymbal.

They are probably made in Meductic New Brunswick in what is now the Sabian factory, before Robert Zildjian split intp Sabian. I've never played a Zilco Sizzle but I have played some hats that I really liked. I'm driving by the factory on the weekend, but unfortunately won't have time to stop. D'oh!

Sorry. I took "what is something like this worth?" in your original post to mean you were interested in estimating worth.

As the Wiki article mentions, there were two distinct types of Zilcos in the production from the later 1960s. As The Cymbal Book (p150) phrases it:

One was a second-line Zildjian, the other was a thinner cymbal that was not hammered.

The Zilco name (short for Zildjian Compay, as AZCO is short for A Zildjian Company) was used for a second line of cymbals which were a bit cheaper. The first Zilcos were actually from the 1930s, and appear in catalogs like the 1937 Premier drum catalog. It sounds like yours is from the decades later re-use of that name in the AZCO era.

The difference between those two eras is down to identification by the stamp and the pic. But it sounds like you are already sure it is from the later 1960s. Still, I did wonder momentarily when you said a 15" diameter cymbal with lots of rivets.

The difference between the pressed into shape (unhammered) thin ones, versus the ones which are Avedis Zildjians at a less expensive price point, is again down to a picture or two for id purposes.
