Zilco Canada

Loading...

Is it safe to assume that a pair of vintage hats stamped "ZILCO BY AZCO CANADA" are nothing more than a low end/budget set?

Also, was it common for a matching pair of ZILCO hats to have significantly different weights?

THANKS in advance for your time and your help!

I don't know about Zilco specifically, but it's very common for a matched pair of hi-hats to have different weights. The bottom hat is usually heavier.

Old,

most of them don't sound too good, but, sometimes you get lucky..............

They are circa 1968,and made in what is now the Sabian factory in New Brunswick.

Well...the interesting thing about Azco Zilcos is...they ARE B20 alloy. They just weren't worked the way the regular Zildjian's were (i.e. very little hammering and the lathing was different/shallower).

As noted, once in a while you can get lucky ~ and end up with a nice sounding cymbal for some applications.

I bought a pair of 20"s back-to-back on eFlay a year ago with the intention of letting Matt Bettis have a go at 'em and do some rehammering/lathing. At the time I figured for $50/ea...I had myself a nice pair of B20 blanks, basically.....

They ended up sounding like such nice, dark, Jazzy sorta rides that I never sent 'em out.
