Using a UV (blacklight) lamp would cut down on the heat.

While I used sunlight, I did use the weaker and more "ghetto" version of retr0bright:

Regular pharmacy hydrogen peroxide (3%)

oxyclean detergent booster

cornstarch.

You should actually use:

Health food or beautician grade hydrogen peroxide (30% or more)

Oxyclean

Xanthan gum

This will make it more like a gel you can apply and it can be kept away from the wood. It can be kept under the blacklight at night and not melt from direct sunlight.

The reason I tried it with the cheaper mix is because my drums were in the worst condition I have ever tried to restore. I just plain felt sorry for the drums.

Were you able to get positive results even with the 3% peroxide?

I'm opting for the UV Light approach instead of the direct sunlight. I have a small bathroom with an overhead lamp... I plan to put one light bulb up there and buy 4 cheap desk lamps to surround the drum kit with UV light. I'm assuming this might help to even up the light exposure.... As you can tell I'm not thinking about the electric bill at this point Laughing H...

I would just do one drum at a time. Maybe even a section at a time.

Can't see how retrobrite could have ANY effect on cured, dried glue

Maybe at the seam, but barely

It's not the glue so much as drying out and making the wrap brittle and dull.

My wrap was dirty and sun damaged, so it's not a fair test of weather the wrap was further damaged by the retrobright.

On a side note I've used it on a 1978 Starwars stormtrooper and it worked great, but they are all plastic, so I could completely submerge it into the solution and put directly into the sunlight.

I would still worry about coating a 60+ year old drum with this stuff without more tests.

Drum wrap is not regular plastic like desktop computer cases or action figures use.

I just wanted my 50 year old set to look like other 50 year old sets, not like an archeology find.
