Yet another Jazzette question

The fake vistalites go much further then the Jazzette, but how is it we are having trouble finding any wood shell Jazzette drum sets, when I have seen at least 4 Vistalite Jazzette's in multi color configurations??? Is it at all likely a jazz drummer would order a Vistalite set when it was really a "rocker" drum of the time in an odd color variant.... So I say throw out the Vistalites unless they are for sure real....I can only see a hip Jazz Cat walking into a club gig with that kit Eye Ball Other then that, I do not have much more to add so I will stay out of this thread... David

You're right. No jazz guys would be caught dead using a Vistalite bebop kit....I don't think...but then again...just when ya think you've seen everything...

If some mention of this turns up in a Ludwig catalog, then it would be worth citing.

I don't know how long the fake vistas have been around but I think Cheries auction was quite some time ago. I also rember seeing Lionel Hampton using a tequila sunrise set in rock sizes in some pics in an old MD.

Just to clear the air here.... I did say I was not going to post, but I want to clear this up a little prior to any problems.

Fake Vistas have been out for many years, at least 5 or more years that I can tell.

These vistas have faked everyone in the business, so unless Cherie purchased the set brand new from Ludwig and ordered it as a Jazzette originally then we will not know for sure.

She is a dealer and drums come in and out and that is her business, so those Vistas passed through her business. She would have never known or realized that they could have potentially been fakes... It is also possible the bass drum was made for the other drums.

Regardless the drums are out there and without close inspection we will not know exactly what they are.

The only reason Cherie was mentioned was because her name was mentioned in another post about selling that set.

Fake drums are passing hands every day without anyone even realizing they are not original.

No one to blame here but the FAKER!

I don't have a problem with someone making a "fake" vistalite set. I just think when someone does that it should made clear somewhere ont the set that it is not an original set. Passing off a set as original is definately dispicable. I would love someday to make an acurate reproduction of my '69 mod orange 22,13,16. If I ever got the chance would definately put the date of manufacture in there and also write that the set was a repro.

I saw a guy at the Conn. drum show a few years back that paid $500.00 for a candy cane vista throne that he thought was original. Boy was that guy ****ed. I guess he got it from some dirtbag on e-bay. Buyer beware!

Assuming these aren't also faked, check out this oddity. Close serial numbers, matching date stamps, seem to have come together as a set. However the bass drum is a club date while the others are classics:

I think the fake vistalite thing was well documented, both on other forums and in Modern Drummer magazine. Rob Cook wrote about it. The company, which still sells vista looking stuff under their own name, had fake badges made. The badges were slightly off, and the dealer was caught.

I don't think there are a lot of fake vintage drums...I think to "fake" a drum would cost as much a buying a real one. The exception being real high ticket items such as wooden Rogers dynasonics, rare finished snares like '20s / '30s peacock or '60s Ludwig psychedelic red or mod orange.

Of course, this has little to do with jazzettes...
