Yellow coating in Slingerland-73 drumkit

Loading...

Hi! This is my first posting in this forum.

In 1979 I bought a used Slingerland drumkit, 13,14,18 and 24". The seller told me that he had bought the drums brand new and that they were about 5 years old at the time.

The inside of the drums are painted with a bright yellow paint with small pieces of metal in it. I have never seen any other Slingerlands with this paint but find it hard to belive that the former owner shold have painted his almost new drums in this way. When I bought them, the original white drumheads were still on, so why paint the drums if it didn't show?

I'm about to start restoring these drums but don't know if I should keep the coating or not.

Has anyone of you guys seen this before, or is it just the former owner who painted this?

/Johan M

Huh - never seen that before  but look at the transition from paint to re-ring - that seems an after-factory job to me

Jaye and Mikey!

Thanks for your input.

I showed my drums to the Swedish Slingerland "Guru" as well, and he fully agreed with you.

This was painted by the former owner and has to come off!

Next step in my restoration will be getting rid of that yellow paint!

-Will let you know how the work progresses.

Thanks again.
