Yamaha snare Rock Tour Custom

Loading...

Hi fellas. I recently acquired this snare drum, for quite cheap. I believe it's a Rock Tour Custom but the year of manufacture I don't know. It's a 8"x14" in Black. The wrap is scratched, as it was gigged often and the chrome on the hoops is flaking but overall in decent shape. It sounds pretty darn good even though it's pretty light in weight maybe due to aluminum hoops. My question is, what's the value these days for these drums as I can't find many online, there's an exact one on reverb/freebay for $650 (in better condition though). Are these desired drums from Yamaha or one that goes under the radar? I've always liked the RTC line but not much is found anywhere. Thanks for the input.

Hi neorich05! Yes, definitely a Rock Tour Custom snare drum and from the professional line of drums. Higher end Yamaha snare drums tend to hold their value, but I'm not up on going prices. I found this Wikipedia page for the RTC drums, which should provide you with some useful information. Good luck!

These are sort of not as common as RC. Even so, they are POWER TOM depth so kits are a bit out of vogue; snares not as much. $600 is way too high.

For you guys who poopoo ebay : in my opinion Reverb is worse as to pricing. Always check ebay sold listings.

You gotta find sold prices ... a 6.5" version sold for 400ish :

Actually Reverb is way better on checking if you use &showsold=true at the end of the weblink when searching:

https://reverb.com/marketplace?query=yamaha%20rock%20tour%20custom%20snare&showsold=true

And:

https://reverb.com/marketplace?query=yamaha%20rock%20tour%20snare&showsold=true

This because even when selecting sold prices, sometimes you don't see the real agreed up on price (the marked green line). Reverb is more transparent about this.

Now you have actually sold prices. But, its always the buyer that pays. Sometimes you have more luck in getting your asking price.

The finish is (as you probably already read in the wiki) no real wrap but a resin sheath.

Loved the sound of the RTC, even more then the RC. Deep and warm.

Thanks musiqman, I did see an 8 lug version in my searches but I also read that it was a Rock Tour drum not RTC. I'm no Yamaha expert by any means. The RTC seems to hold its price though, and that I like :-)
