yamaha recording custom question

just picked up one of the drums. november of 85 build date, power hoops etc.

the ubiquitous cherry red finish.

anyway, it has some grover wires on it. two strands are gone,, im gonna try my hand at repairing it, but, wanted to know if these drums came with extra length wire? there isn't a snare bed cut, so i don't know that there would be much benefit. just wondering so when i wreck the grovers i know what i need to have on hand.

thanks

I believe the RC snare had roller bridges and extended snare wires.

I think 85 would have been extended snares, yes.

They did seem to go back and forth over the years for some reason.

Here is a page from the 1986 catalog. The RC (900 series) drum is on top- note the double snare adjustment and bridge to bring the snares past the end of the drum, like the 800 and 700 series which is explained in detail. On the 800, the snares only adjust on one side.

I hope that helps!

You know I looked at those catalog scans and

some how missed the throw off info. That answers

my question. Thanks!

aaaaand one more thing...the only extended wires i can find, that don't cost $40, are pearl wires for the free floating snares...they should be about the same length, right?

i measured the distance from roller to roller on the yamaha and it's over 15 1/2 inches so i would think those will work, but can't find measurements for the wire. guess i'll find out
