So a while back i wrote a thread about my floor tom leg not staying put
inside the bracket tightly and thought i had a knock off Yamaha leg that didn't fit the bracket. I have since ordered and received a new Yamaha floor tom leg from Dave's Drum Shop in Ottawa, Canada,3 hrs away.
Dave's a great guy, extremely helpful, courteous, and professional, which we can all appreciate when dealing with a drum shop owner who is not in the same city, province, or state.. I got my floor tom leg as promised, promptly, and with no hang ups, packaged perfectly.. Unfortunately, my slight mistake in overlooking one factor made this whole transaction completely unnecessary, in that i never really needed a new floor tom leg, because of the following reasons--
1- The 3 legs that came with my kit have 2 out of 3 original legs, and a 3rd Yamaha,
from what i can only guess is a later era, as it is slightly longer.
2- I tried to tighten all 4 legs (new one included) in all brackets..
All 4 worked on 2 brackets, whereas all 4 were loose in one of the brackets..
I think you guys may now know where i'm going with this .Hmmmm
3- If you haven't already guessed, the bloody hexagonal eyelet bolt inside the floor tom bracket
is where the problem lies, and upon close inspection, seems to be losing it's threading.
Either that or the interior metal has just scoured away from so many years of
sliding and tightening the FT leg.
So this is what the problem was all along. A damn eyelet ! LOL !
Aaarrgghh... sigh.........Had i checked this sooner and had just a little more patience, i would've ended up with a piece that only costs about a dollar, and an extra 2 just in case the others start failing.
As i searched the internet tirelessly for 2 hrs, i came across Lone Star Percussion in Dallas, Texas..It seems that they order ones directly from Yamaha, but for the Stage Custom Series only.. This may just be because that's all they've been ordering and there hasn't been much demand for this part (or maybe there has?)Hmmmm..There is local drum shop 20 minutes away that has tons of vintage, new, and used drum and hardware parts, so i'm gonna try them tomorrow.
I'm also waiting for confirmation from DDS in Ottawa to see if he's got any lying around..
My question is-- (finally, i know !-:D)
Would this Stage Custom hex bolt be the same type of hexagonal eyelet bolt used in older Yamaha FT brackets,
or is there a slight or significant difference ? Also, where in the heck am i gonna find one ??
I checked ebay and all over the internet and the only place that seems to have it is LSP in Dallas..
I checked the Yamaha parts page and that part and bracket is obviously discontinued, so no luck there.
So what's the deal Yamaha guys ? Am i now stuck with 4 floor tom legs and 2 usable brackets? Please somebody give me some good news, or a brighter side to this situation, or else something as little as this will almost
make me consider selling the kit, which i really don't want to do. (I'm kinda OCD like that LoLoLoLo)
Here is a pic of the part.
Thanks to all in advance for all your thoughts and suggestions..
Cheers,
Rob
