Yamaha 100 year anniversary drums

Has anyone seen one in real life?

I knew they showed a few models as a museum piece at the 2010 Namm show.

They came in a few rare wood and composite species like Sapele and Carbon.

They also came with both black chrome and 24k gold hardware.

It also came with this exclusive drum key which is made of Carbon, Black Wood and Mother Of Pearl.

Hm, somehow I missed their 100th birthday...:(

This is quite interesting, I remember that back in the 80s Yamaha showed up for an (must have been the 75th then?) anniversary at the Frankfurt Music Fair here in Germany with some special kits also - rare wood finishes, gold plated hardware and even a carbon kit, as you mentioned.

The same kits they had 6 years ago, with a "100" instead of a "75"?

As we asked the people that worked at the booth if the carbon kit would make it to serial production, they just answered something like, "I don´t think so, because besides of an almost insane price I don´t know anybody who´d like to carry it around!" So the shells seemed to be very heavy, but with an outstanding look indeed.

Unfortunately we didn´t have mobilephones w/camera nor digicams back in the day, so I can´t provide any material than just memories...

Did you have a chance to hear what this carbon kit sounds like?

Really sad these beautiful kits were just produced as museum pieces, and never had been offered at least in a limited edition - they would have become something like "holy grails" for our grandchildren!

The 100 year was 1887 - 1987, so probably it were these kits you saw.

Awesome!

I know they were in production. But probably very sparse.

They didn't make many carbon kits too indeed. I know Tommy Aldridge had one (if i'm right it went back to Osaka after years)

The only thing I have is this just as rare Tuning Key and the catalog.

Me 2. The one on the picture, got it with the catalog (and a lot of other Yamaha catalogs some very rare too)

I wear it as a necklace on special ocassions.

Yes. Yamaha started making drums in 1967, yet as company they started in 1887.

Great you could snag this unique key and even a catalog of the Centennial drums!

Would you mind sharing pics here with us on this forum as well?
