WWII Rolling Bomber Last viewed: 4 days ago

Hi, Forumites

I just finished restoring an old WWII Slingerland 16x16 and thought I'd post some photos. All but one of the original leg brackets were long gone, so my friend Brooks Tegler made some repro brackets and legs. I cant imagine having to deal with those wooden legs on a regular basis. They sure look cool, though. The original brackets were made from multiple plys that were glued together. These repros are made from two pieces of oak, glued together. I chose to leave the one remaining bracket in place.

This drum is in really nice condition and pretty "white" for its age. It has a 3 ply shell with three solid maple reinforcement rings. Interestingly, they used cut up pieces of snare drum hoops as backing "washers" for the wood lugs. The builders had to use whatever they had on hand at that time. I may have been the first to remove the heads as the inside of the drum looks like new.

Hello drumchums

I am beginning to appreciate how much people share in the drumworld through this forum, it's great. Try to get to hear Erland Dahlen playing his "Rolling Bomber" on the recording of the same name on Hubro. I think vintage drum fans will recognise the history in the timbre of the timber.
